Will a time travel theme hurt the chances of a novel being published?

I want to write a young adult science fiction novel, and I have an idea about time travel. It's somewhat different than how time travel is usually depicted in fiction. In fact, it's almost satiric of the idea. But I'm wondering if time travel is too cliche now to market? Will an editor take one look at the story, say, "not another one about time travel ..." and toss it in the rejected bin? Should I just come up with another idea, or is a time travel-themed book still marketable?

It depends on two things.

The first is how original it is. If your idea of time-travel is pretty much the same idea that everyone else has, and is the central element of your novel, that could be a problem.

Secondly, it depends on how you write it. Many authors write about things that are cliche but unrealistic that, in the hands of anyone else, would come off as ridiculous. But the way they write it is astounding.

Furthermore, when you write a novel, there's something called "suspending disbelief." Obviously the concept of time travel is something that doesn't exist in our world, and so you would have to manage to write the book in a way that allowed readers to suspend their disbelief. If at everyone page there was something new that didn't exist in our world, you'd have problems. For example, if on one page you said there was time travel, on another you said there was magic, on a third you said people never died, eventually (unless you're an incredible author) the reader wouldn't be able to suspend their disbelief and would think that the entire novel is just not believable.

Read books like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and other Fantasy/Sci-fi classics to get a feel of how the author writes. Pay attention to parts where they cause you to suspend your disbelief and where they make you feel that this imaginary world/person/concept/item exists, even though it doesn't. Try to achieve the same effect.

Anything can be put in a book. It's just up to the writer to make it work. Best of luck to you.

If you think you've got a good idea, go with it.

Personally, I love the concept of time travel whether it's science fiction or theoretical research. People are fascinated by time travel because it unlocks limitless possibilities. Any editor who would recognize this as a "cliche sci-fi drama" is the Moron of the Century.

As for failure, if you don't have confidence in what you have written you should edit it yourself. You are the only one who knows how your novel is supposed to feel, so make it how you want it. If it's good, it will be published. If it's not, try again. And remember, Dune (one of the biggest sci-fi cult book's of all-time) was rejected by 13 editors. 13!!!

Keep a writing notepad, note your thoughts, write whenever you can, and don't give up.

Every idea is marketable. As long as you can make a really exciting and great story. If you've read Stephen King novels you'll realize that all his works are on random ideas. The Mist is about monsters comming out of a big mist, the Dead Zone is about a man who can look into someone's past and future by simply touching the person of one of their belongings, i can go on forever. There are so many zombie stories and they sell, because they make them exciting and great to read. Keep your subject of choice and make the story great and it'll sell. Any subject can sell.

Time travel will always be a staple of sci-fi. It has been done a lot but I don't think they would toss out your manuscript for that reason alone. Perhaps you should suck them in with the first chapter or two and then introduce the time travel element. By that time, they'll be too interested to stop reading.

Good luck!! ; )

go for it... i am sure a new concept of time travel would be great.

What is the best way to travel in European countries?

I want to travel to European countries. As there are many countries in this region for travelling, I want to discover slowly one by one. Any suggestion for me to enjoy travelling ? Appreciated if any.

Europe contains MANY countries........

I know to there are walks you can do. A friend of mine did a walk around the Black forest region, just walking through various villages etc. There is also one you can do on the Italian coast...I can't quite remeber the name, but it has sometihng to do with 5 villages (cinqa...something) and this has also been recommended to me.

Trains and buses are frequent and good ways to get from A to B, otherwise there are a multitude of airlines, if you want ot skip through anyplaces.. There is a site below I recommend that has many airlines included in it. There is also a couple of bus companies, with options for using the bus to get around.

You could start with the Eurostar website. It's a network of European railways that allows you to buy different kinds of rail travel passes for as many as 16 countries, at a very discounted rate. Alternatively, you can fly within Europe of their budget carriers which offer tickets for a very very low price.

However, Eurostar is better since it allows you the flexibility to travel within the area for which the pass is valid and break journey at any place. Of course, there are some small fees for services like reservations etc. Travel by rail allows you to enjoy the breathtaking European countryside which changes as you zoom from one country to another.

In Europe, you can find an excellent selection of hotels and hostels but you need to book them in advance for the best possible rates and to ensure you'll get a room when you arrive.

To discover slowly, one by one, I suggest you land in Amsterdam and travel around the Netherlands. Next, travel by rail to Brussels and enjoy Belgium. Later, you can visit Luxemburg and taste what that country has to offer. From Luxemburg, you can go onwards to Germany and so on....

Depending on the amount of time you will be travelling, of course, I believe I would prefer to travel by car.

Most European countries (if not all) are connected in a way that allows you to use or bring a car, and that gives you thepossility of travelling at your own speed and take any road you like.

When travelling in Europa, please don't forget about Denmark! As you can see on that website below, Denmark is a magnificent country, filled with VERY old culture, and if you like a small country surrounded by beaches or the sense of history, go take a look at some very well preserved Danish castles....or even better yet, stay a few days at one of them.

I wish you a safe journey!

well i think the best way to travel is by plane 'cause it doesn't take too long and it's usually cheaper. depending on where you wanna go, a train can take hours and hours and some of them are not very confortable. and if you are into getting to know fun people you should stay in hostels. it's a lot of fun and the cheapest option as well. and some of them are even better than cheap hotels. here are some websites you should check :

www.whichbudget.com

www.easyjet.com

www.ryanair.com

www.myair.com

www.germanwings.com

and for hostels :

www.hostelworld.com

Hitch hike and get a ride on a milk truck. The truck will stop at every barn and the barns will be spaced about 3 minutes apart. You will have plenty of slow discovery time.

Well u can travel within europe by either flights or rails. If u plan to travel to UK to Paris,France u can take the Eurostar. As for inter-railing between countries u can try eurorail.U can check fares & routes from the sites below. Also u have the option of flying with budget flights which i wud list for u below as well. But 1st u need to google wot countries that u wud wanna explore & visit 1st.Also it all depends on how many days u have to explore it one by one, unless u have least 3months ( minimum ) , i doubt u can explore all the countries in a month or 2.Even if u cud, u wud barely scratch the surface.Anyways google up wot countries 1st.U can always head to Prague,Czech Republic.Beautiful city,Amazing Catheral...lovely ppl .Or try Paris, The famous Louvre Museum,Notre Dame,Eiffel Tower..etc..so much to do and see in Europe. Its all about u and wot u want to do.So take some time off and check everythin up.Once u got the countries u wanna head to figured up,book hotel/hostels,means of transportand etc...Good Luck! :)

The classical way to enjoy Europe has been getting a rail pass and let your whims take you on any given day.

Recently though, it has been more cost-efficient and convenient to hop on Europr's many value airlines, some of which offer 1 Euro one way tickets to all kinds of obscure European locations.

Is it possible to travel by bus from Hanoi to Laos? How is the border crossing?

I am planning to visit Hanoi again, and I am considering going to Laos. Can anyone tell me if this is possible? If so, is a bus travel possible? How much and how long will the travel take? Thanks.

Yes it is possible as I did it a few years ago. Prices will have changed by then but they run over night and the border crossing is fine but pretty filthy (actually the worst toilet I have ever seen in my ten years of backpacking, it was 10cm deep in excrement =)

Its possible. The border crossing is y if you have your passport and yoiu cooperate.

What cheap ways are there to travel on the tube?

I travel from Slough to Russell Square everyday, and i pay daily for a travel card which costs me abt £17. Are there any other cheaper ways to travel? As i am not in a zone so its costs more and Oyster doesn't benefit so much.

absolutely bull!

don't believe Bridget ! Oyster prepaid isn't valid on national rail so oyster isn't your best option.

A season ticket with rail, underground included is your best bet.

A season ticket, i work on the Railway, and if there are any problems delays etc you are entitled to refunds which you only get on season, and you can aslo use it for recreation, when your off work etc

Buy a season ticket

Getting an Oyster card and putting pre-pay on it is the cheapest way to travel by tube, rail and bus within London. I would get an Oyster card and put £50 on it. It is not time-limited and you get the cheapest available fare whenever you use it, and there is a daily limit on how much you can be charged. Once you've spent up to that limit the rest of that day's journeys are free (you still have to swipe your Oyster card).

The expensive part is your journey in from Slough by rail outside London. Buying a season ticket may work out cheaper than daily travel cards. Some employers offer interest free loans to help you buy an annual season ticket.

You could save a lot of money by getting an Oyster card, then travelling in on the tube from Heathrow or which ever end of the tube is nearest to you. But that will take a lot longer, so only you can decide if it is worth it to you.

Try buying a travel pass of some kind.

Well, if you only go into London and then back out once per day, you're wasting money with a daily travel card -- you'd be better off buying individual fares each way. The travel card gives you unlimited travel in the zones you buy it for, so you're paying much more than two one-way fares would cost.

Oyster card is too much? Really? I don't know the current cost, but the monthly rate is almost always better than the same number of daily travel cards...

Travel on the tube...watch a travel channel! Har de har har

Sneak on.........

Why do airplanes not travel in a straight line?

I look at the airline's travel map, and they are never traveling in a straight line.

Various reasons. Winds; the airway is not a straight line; change in clearance, need to move to evade weather or other aircraft, and probably more.

maybe because of the latitude and longitude lines...

world is round, sh=t for brains

pilot drunk

Nowadays we can often just go GPS direct which is a straight line to where you want to go (if ATC allows it). But before GPS we had to use radio navigation. Things called VORs and NDBs. These are scattered throughout the country. If you wanted to fly from the west coast to the east coast navigating by this method....you would not ever be able to plan a perfectly straight route, you would have to zig-zag a little between navigation facilities.

they follow the curve of the planet, they do go straight for the most part but the map itself is where the arch comes in, the difference between looking at a globe and a flat map. lay the map over a basketball, you'll see.

Some times it is as simple as a storm is in the way or the direct path of flight is through restricted airspace.

If you have a more specific question please clarify.

they fly from VOR to VOR

THEY DON'T TRAVEL IN STRAIGHT LINES BECAUSE THE GLOBE IS ROUND SO IF YOU TAKE A GLOBE AND MARK A LINE FROM WHERE EVER TO WHEREEVER AND TAKE THE PAPER OF THE GLOBE, YOU WILL NOTICE THAT THE LINES AERN'T STRAIGHT. THERE ARE ALSO OTHER PLANES IN THE AIR YOU KNOW SO MAYBE THATS WHAT MAKES THEM TAKE THE SAFEST AND QUICKEST ROUTE TO THE DESTINATION

Airlines travel by electronic "highways." When travelling great

distances they use a "great circle" route. Its actually a straight

course when plotted on a globe. When you see the route in

print, you're seeing a flat representation of a spherical course.

Thats why it appears curved.

On those Airline travel maps you are looking at I am sure the routes going North/South look like straight lines, only the East/West routes appear to curve. The issue is with the map. Your question really gets to the choices map makers have to make, the challenge all maps of the Earth have is that they are trying to represent a sphere (or an ellipsoid, the Earth actually bulges at the equator) on a flat piece of paper. Most maps are Mercator Projections which distort the northern and southern latitudes, with out seeing the travel map you are looking at I would guess that it is a Mercator Projection.

Do this experiment yourself â€" you’ll need a globe, a World map and a piece of string. On the globe stretch the piece of string between Seattle and Amsterdam, notice the shortest route takes you over Canada and Greenland, north of both your starting and ending point. When you do the same thing on the World map you’ll notice that your string is nearly following the lines latitude across the northern United States and the North Pacific, a much longer route.

You can then exaggerate the difference by looking at Seattle to Moscow. The direct route on the globe will take you over the artic, on the map this doesn’t even look possible.

The maps you are looking at are printed that way for clarity, not the actual route. Commercial aircraft travel is conducted using specific routes between ground based navigational aids. These routes are called Victor Airways. At the time when these airways were set up we didn't have sophisticated electronics or GPS satellite systems. Aircraft traveled from navigation signal to navigation signal. Flight controllers expect aircraft to be on specific routes and specific altitudes to avoid clearance problems (AKA collisions). Aviation industry is slow to change but one day soon we will have commercial aircraft traveling direct from their departure location to their destination saving time and fuel.

Aircraft travel via air traffic control centers. These centers monitor both altitude and speed. For obvious reasons, centers monitor many different types of aircraft. Some fast jets, some slower turbo props, some slower pistons. In order to have the aircraft avoid colliding in midair. Centers will work traffic using the VOR's at different airports accross the country. Control centers will tell someone flying from west coast to east to go a certain route via the VOR's. East to west traffic will use a different route. If you look at the US as a whole, the VOR's are a sort of highway system in the sky. Thus, the aircraft have to fly over VOR's to stay on the highway in the sky!!!

no straight lines/road dividers up there to indicate.

it goes by the wind

They don't fly in a straight line because they fly with the latitude and longitude lines and those aren't straight. They are curved because the Earth is round.

most of these answers are correct i like the one with flight 1 and flight 2 and the crash this is correct but also planes can not just fly where they want to there are flight routs which MUST be followed!

I hate people that answer questions that don't know what the heck they're talking about. DenimGuy5 is an idiot and shouldn't be answering aviation questions. To clean up his mess of airplanes running into each other if two airplanes took off from different airports and flew directly at each other they wouldn't collide. First specific altitudes are to be flown for the direction of flight you are traveling. Basically if you are flying easterly you are to fly at odd thousands and westerly you are to fly at even thousands. For example if my heading is exactly 090 (east), I'm supposed to fly at an odd thousand such as 7,000 feet or FL330 (33,000 feet). This would be for IFR traffic which in addition to that each aircraft would be assigned an altitude to fly at which sometimes doesn't go along with the rule I just mentioned. If you are flying VFR you are to take the same rule but at 500 feet to the altitude you wish to fly at.

The answer to the question asked has already been answered by most everybody. When we look at a map we see a 2-dimensional representation of a 3-D globe. When you see the flight track of an airplane that is actually flying direct from one airport to another and it looks curved it's because he's following the natural curvature of the earth. If you were to warp that map into the shape of the globe it would in fact turn in to what looks like a strait line from A to B.

Why do you thing airplanes DON'T travel in a straight line?

The world is round and always spinning so going straight will mean they'll miss their destination. Thus they plan their flight accordingly so as to actually arrive to their destination despite the rotation and curvature of the Earth. Secondly if all planes traveled in a straight line, it increases the likely of a midair collision of two planes going in opposite direction.

Flight 1 heads to Houston TX, leaving LA and going straight.

Flight 2 heads to LA, leaving from Houston and going straight (at around the same time).

Midway....BOOOM!

A straight line is the shortest distance between two points...

In this case it leads to a lawsuit...

How many days of travel is sufficient to appreciate the beauty of Taiwan without rushing?

I love to explore the culture, street food, places of interest but at a relaxing pace and hate to rush by going out too early everyday and getting back really late. Also, I hate to keep rushing in order to travel to many different places within a day because I like to appreciate the beauty of every country. From my description, how many days do you think would be sufficient for me to travel in Taiwan. I'm looking at 9 days? What are the places that you recommend?

Hi, This is Pagan Dan's wife answering. He and I lived in Taiwan on and off for five of the past seven years and we feel we've just scratched the surface. What can you do in nine days? hmmm.... Well, you will probably start with Taipei. I lived and taught there for three years. It was great fun riding the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) and just hopping off at an interesting place, of which there is no shortage. On the Brown Line, go to the end to the Taipei Zoo. While there take the Gondola up the Mountain and stop for tea in the mountainside at one of the many tea restaurants. Explore the town of Muzha one stop back on the MRT. Great food there, too. Hop back on the Brown Line and get off at Zhongxiao Fuxing stop. Explore the back lanes for more great food. Walk north on Fuxing to the shopping mall if you enjoy shopping or seeing a movie (on the 9th or 10th floor). Walk over to Dunhua Road and hit the back lanes again for more great food. Certainly no shortage of fabulous restaurants. You can do similar things on each of the red, blue and orange lines. Two weeks might suffice but in a pinch you might catch the highlites in a week. Go to Danshui, 1/2 hr north of Taipei. It's my most favourite place with it's boardwalk. You can snack as you walk along. Takes about 1/2 hour from one end to the other. There's also Yangminshan Mountain, Chiang Kai Shek Memorial, Dr. Sun Yat Sen Hall, Taipei 101 and more. Go online and check out things to do in Taipei and around Taiwan.

During your 2nd week, you could go down the stunning east coast. Don't miss Taroko Gorge which was 1/2 hr from where we lived in Hualien. Loved it there, too. Then, travel south through the most stunning scenery to Kenting, a local tourist getaway. Over west to Kaoshiang, the 2nd largest city in Taiwan. Continue up the west coast or go inland to Miaoli and/or Nantou Counties. Incredible scenery + Sun Moon Lake. Travelling in Taiwan could be an endless adventure for you. I'd allow a month but two weeks would give you a terrific overview. Enjoy!!! The tourists haven't discovered it yet. And another thing. You'll love the low prices of everything. Food is so inexpensive that we ate out all the time. If you live in N. America, you haven't experienced great Chinese food yet. Taiwan is the best. They also have great Thai food. Don't miss eating those shrimp cakes. Yummy! BTW, make sure to interact lots with the local people. You'll love them. They're so kind, friendly and helpful. Mind you, they also enjoy a free English lesson just by talking to you but it's worth it because you'll be able to learn about their culture if they can converse fairly well with you.

Pagan Dan's wife has a nice list, but a few errors too.

Skip the Makong Gondola because it's broken (and it was just built too, hmm I wonder why) and they need to spend lots of NT$ + time to clean up that mess.

Taipei is a nice place- but too many overrated tourist traps. Yang-ming shan is definitely overrated- I mean come on, there are thousands of better looking mountains out in the east/central/south part of the island! Then there's Taipei 101 which can be summed up as a tower with a built in mall. That said if your coming over new-years (regular) then check out the fireworks show at the 101.

Oh, and I think the MRT doesn't run to the zoo on weekends anymore, so plan accordingly.

If you're looking for beauty, you can skip the West coast entirely... that will save you some time.

How can I find companions to travel abroad with?

So I want to travel from the US to pretty much anywhere abroad in the next few months. The only problem is I can't find anyone among my friends at home who will commit to going with me. They either can't find the time or don't have the money to go. Is there a way to find other people out there in the same situation who have the time and money to go abroad but can't find travelling companions? Are there any travel forums or message boards on the internet I can look at? I'm 27 years old, so I'm too old to go with a high school tour group and too young to join a seniors tour! :) Are there any tour groups out there for people my age? Any helpful suggestions will be most appreciated!

CHECK OUT THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES BULLETIN BOARDS AT THE UNIVERSITY LEVEL...SOMETIME GRADUATE CLASSES ALSO ...IVE SEEN POSTINGS ON THE BOARDS AT THE ENTRY OF UNIVESITY LABBYS....BETTER CLASS OF TRAVELING COMPANION THERE I WOULD THINK.

Talk to a travel agent they often sponsor trips for singles only and couples...too when you get one...I'd be happy to go but I'm way over here in germany for the year...sorry

try Craigslist.com

you can find anyone there to do anything

You could always post your interests in a forum like craigslist.com. Maybe try to put in an ad in the paper too? People who are looking for the same things as you will look in similar places! Also, there are some great sites online that offer student tours and even though you might be a -few- years older than a college student, I bet they could push you in the right direction. Happy travels!

Call your travel agent, and ask if they have any singles trips planned. They do this often, where they encourage singles to go on certain trips, and they you are with a bunch of single people, and you can make friends. They have a lot of resorts like this, but they also go to Europe and everywhere else.

Join a travel club.

on the road

what wrong with going by self?

Maybe flossing or a hiding a mint leaf in your cheek will do the trick. Bueno Suerte (I speak Spanish) !

VEGAS baby!!!!

That's odd. I was looking for a broad to be a companion with!

How long would it take to travel through the mantle?

The mantle is 2884 km deep. If I were to travel through the mantle, how long would my journey be?

By the way, I know this sounds stupid. No one could ever travel through the mantle, it's way too hot (4,000 degrees F), but I have to write a paper about traveling through the different layers of the earth.

At what speed??? In other words:

2884/speed=time

If u were going 2884kmph than it would take 1 hour or around that it would take long than an hour because density is greater than most liquid.

2884 km is quite a long way, so I'm guessing you'd want to stop for a few meals along the way. Now depending on your tastes, this might mean stopping at MacDonalds, or at a posh restaurant, so you stop times will have to be accounted for. Also are you planning on travelling trough the core as well, cause if the earths core is anything like an apple core, there are some tough little bits in there, (you know the bits that sometimes get stuck in your teeth), and they may take a bit longer to get through. What will your mode of transport be? You might not get too far in your car, I'm sure the tyres won't be able to cope with the heat. You are probably going to need a vehicle that can withstand a lot of heat - maybe something like the space shuttle - but be sure to avoid any pieces of foam when you are first starting out, as we all know the damge that foam can cause to heat shields. Anyway good luck with it, can't wait to see the photos.

How does one become an independent travel agent?

How does a person become an independent travel agent?

I am looking for the following information:

General cost of courses

Length of courses

The amount of money (generally) a travel agent makes yearly

Is there a high and low season for travel agents?

When you are independent, do you work through an established agency for a fee?

Last but not least, if you have any websites that go into good detail, that would be helpful. My husband brought it up and I'm checking it out. Thanks.

All you have to do is go to your college. You can get either a diploma or a degree, but a degree will better help you to achieve this. I am a travel agent and I graduated in December with my degree. It takes about 2 years, depending on how much time you put into it and how many classes you take. If you want to, you can try to do it between 6 months and a year if you can, but it will be very hard. It will cost you about $10,000 for everything, tuition, books, classes everything. Apply for scholarships, especially if you had great grades in high school. I kept a 4.0 GPA throughout my academic history, and scholarships and grants got me through college and whatever was left over was like a gift, to do as you wish with. I must have gotten refunds of up to $3000 in that first year. It's easy, just apply for Financial Aid. Good luck and I wish you well. You can do it. If I was able to, you most certainly can.

you can become an independent travel agent for $299 this also includes a website that is maintained for you! the best thing about it is you get paid to travel. If you join before 1/31/8 you will also receive a free mini vacation to Cancon!

What is the average travel and vacation expense for an American family per year?

How much does an average American family spend on travel and vacation in the span of one year?

Including things like, visiting family, vacations, travel expenses, air fare, food, touring, and lodging?

I'd like to mount a campaign to encourage people not to go anywhere. Travel has become so expensive and unpleasant that it's hard to understand why people don't stay home.

Why are we crowding our highways and airports to get someplace else? Newspapers and magazines are filled with ads trying to get us to travel. They want us to go somewhere - anywhere but home.

What is the cheapest way to travel around Japan?

I am studying Japanese and want to travel around Japan for a couple of months visiting Kyoto, Tokyo and Osaka, and various other places. However, travelling in japan always seems to be very expensive when I google it. I am a student (in the UK) and therefore on a tight budget. Where are the cheapest places to stay/eat? Cheapest flights and domestic travel?

The cheapest way to travel, is the "shoe leather sedan"

Bullet trains for distant travel ought to be inexpensive - Google that mode.

Mopeds in the cities, or bikes.

Heaven forbid you should need 'shanks mare', especially if you will be against the clock. Excuse me...meaning 'pressed for time'.

(Does Japan have hostels? Check it out.)

I would say walk around a lot and if you need to catch a cab.

Train or bus. Or if you're a hot white girl, almost any old japanese man will happily drive you around ANYWHERE.

On foot, and by train when you need to travel a long distance.

hostels in japan can be a great deal. i stay in many throughout my travels.

i have to agree with the person who said bike. surprisingly i met a lot of people biking from one part of japan to another when i was travelling.

my friend even did it from tokyo to sendai all within a week.

buy a used bike

I did this a few years ago and had a wonderful time.

Travel: do not use domestic flights in Japan, they are really expensive. Buy a JR Rail Pass before you go, you will save a fortune on fares and you can use it on ferries and buses too. You can also use it on all but the fastest bullet train (shinkansen).

There are plenty of cheap hostels in Japan, you can book them online.

Food is cheap and nutritious, as long as you avoid the fancy hotels and restaurants. Just go where the Japanese go.

Don't expect anyone to speak English, learn a bit of Japanese. Find out about customs and how to behave in social situations before you go.

Take cash. Japan is still a cash society.

Do NOT try to hitchhike. Do expect to be stared at. Exercise the same caution and safety measures as you would at home.

Have a great time.

If you want to keep it cheap don't stay "for a couple of months", every day you stay the money spent adds up.

Food is cheap, ramen places, noodle places, mom and pop small restaurants.

Cheap lodging, hostels, guest houses, park bench.

Flying domestically is not cheap. Overnight highway bus is reasonable price, but very tiring. A more expensive high speed train might take 2-3 hours to cover a route that takes a bus 8-9 hours.

Hitch a lift from Godzilla

rental car to get around... get a cheap small one.... eat at the places around town or go to the markets and haggle... prices at the market are not set in stone...

the most important part...

KNOW THE CURRENCY ... if you dont you will get taken advantage of everywhere you go

Hitch hiking? lol

airplane

What if Time Travel already exists and the time travelers are keeping it hush hush?

The theory goes, time travel is possible, time travel vehicles run on steam, all you need is Ocean water.

In fact, because time machines can run on water, it would eliminate water and save the world from global warming.

But Exxon Mobile and Texaco and Citgo and Sunoco and Shell gasoline companies paid billions to the inventer of the time traveler to buy the rights to time travel.

They will never authorize the use of it or sell it because then they won't make money on gasoline anymore.

Is this theory credible?

uh yes and if you can travel time then you can always go back in time and erase your mistakes like bill and ted.,

How many different paths can a bug travel from Point A to Point B?

How many different paths can a bug travel from Point A to Point B along a network traveling ONLY South or East?

(Point A is at the top left of rectangle with 3 columns across and 2 rows down, Point B is at the bottom right of the rectanvle) I need an answer and how you got the answer (formula). Thanks.

What kind of travel program should I go on?

I am 16 and I LOVE to travel. Problem is my parents don't, and at the moment have responsibilities that keep them from traveling. Are there any sort of programs in which I can travel without my parents (maybe with a very small group) to Europe?

go on a contiki bus tour (http://ca.contiki.com/), they offer very cheap packages, and go to many cities and countries. the food and entertainment they provide is excellent

by the way i booked a contiki tour while i was staying a few years in bermuda, and went all over europe for 2 weeks. My brother did a similar contiki tour, it was the time of our live ! Amsterdam, Rome, Venice, Paris, you name it and we all got booked top rate hotels and dining, its all inclusive

if you are in Europe, then searching some information about the place that you would like to go..get as much as inof to present to them. how to go, what to do, and where to stay,. etc.

How much does travel insurance cost for 3 months?

Hi guys. I'm planning a trip to los angeles in June 2010 for 3 months and im trying to calculate the amount of money i'll need.

The problem is, i have no idea how this travel insurance stuff works,so how much would travel insurance cost me for this period?

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Try this site for a quick quote on travel medical insurance. TravelEx allows for pre-existing conditions. ---> http://www.travelex-insurance.com/index.asp?location=07-0018

I recommend using the below Travel company, They are very competertive on there premiums as they do not owe commission to advertising websites, And the service is nothing less that A*. http://www.cover2travel.co.uk/index.aspx?rs_id=Jd_a243ced http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20081026233050AAjfLIw&kid=QswqLUnBLnLqq2hRg.Cl&s=comm&date=2009-03-26+04%3A14%3A19&.crumb=

If you are looking for trip cancellation insurance, the price is usually 7-10 % of the trip cost. The price does vary depending on the number of travelers and the ages of the travelers. Sometimes even the destination plays a part in the final cost.

If you just want travel medical and evacuation coverage, the price of the policy will depend on your age and length of the trip. If you are 30 traveling for 3 months, you can find travel medical policies starting at $94. The price will increase if you are older and it should decrease if you are younger.

Here is the site I used to obtain the quote:

http://www.insuremytrip.com/

Hey, you could have a look at UKNetGuide, they have a nice travel insurance comparison table...

http://www.uknetguide.co.uk/Insurance/Travel-Insurance-Comparison/Single-Holiday/

Ideally you would probably look for Single Trip travel insurance to cover you for the specific time you are in the States - they have deals from £5.85 and you could benefit from 10% online discount.

It varies by where you live, your age, and what type of coverage you're interested in; travel medical or comprehensive travel policies.

It's best to review some of the web sites that allow you to quote different plans for the same trip. The best site in the USA for doing this is http://www.quotewright.com.

Last time I’ve purchased it from Travel Guard I paid $46 for one week. How much it will cost for 3 months? I am afraid it will cost a lot more.

Check out the website for free online quotes. You may be able to enter your specific parameters and get a quote and even buy the policy online

When clicking around travel websites, which sections do you find the most helpful?

When planning a trip online, you can do more than book the flight. Many websites offer travel guides, lists of destination activities, etc. We’d love to know which online travel tools you rely on the most.

For me, I like to know more about the destination cities or countries. the facilities, information about cool place and tourism area, etc. I also would like to know about the accomodation that travel agencies provide. About the flight, I would like to know the plane type, the services they give especially for a long journey, and all kind of important information such as baggage limit etc.

I do not go on vacation without using www.tripadvisor.com. Not only do I get a lot of reviews of the hotel I am considering, but once I've planned my vacation, I use their forum section to find answers to any questions I have. Wonderful site.

yellow book

I always plan our trips online and I tend to seek out any activities.

A good suggestion would be to add stats (population, crime rates,....ect) about the place travelers are going.......esp if it is out of the country.

I rely always on fare specials, must be stated, not the sign up for email specials.

Next, I look at last minute getaways since I'm a last minute traveler.

I also look for travel packages, such as air+car or air+car+hotel.

Also, maybe one map of the flights you offer, showing them city to city, so we can visually plan out our multiple destination trip much easier.

As far as activities go, thats what the city website is for.

I think airlines should really focus on providing great fares and packages, so we dont have to go elsewhere, like cheapoair or expedia. Lotsa times these other websites have better fare rates and packages then the airline's own direct page, which I dont think is good business at all for airlines.

when i just want an airline ticket, i go to yahoo travel. if i am looking for airfare, rental car and hotel i check out hotwire for better deals. i don't look at the destination activities, since most of the time i've already researched it online through a chamber of commerce or lonely planet travel guide.

It would be great if the airlines had a search section that I could type in where I want to fly and maybe the month. Then give me the choice of maybe 5 airports to fly from.

I live in a remote part of Pennsylvania and have to drive 2 - 5 hours to a major airport anyway so I'd like to know quickly if it's a much better price from Philadelphia than say Pittsburgh or Baltimore. Also, my dates are normally very flexible so give me a months worth of prices --- I can fly on a Wednesday if that works better for the airline!

Thank you for asking!

i honestly do not plan trips online it is a hassel for me because it is to timing consuming for me and it is aheadache.

flight arrivals, departures and the price. Discounts. Any info related to place I am traveling to. Such as conventions in town or not.

I spend a lot of time booking flights online, but I find that most sites have too much material on them. Other than the booking sections (for flights, hotels, and rental cars), the only thing I ever use is the information I have saved on my own preferences to access my frequent flier numbers and numbers for the hotel and rental car programs I belong to.

I like the travel tools that tell me what there is to do in an area, not just what things that 'x' resort has available, but if there are state parks nearby, if there are shows nearby, etc.

I use Kayak.com first and foremost. After I see the trends for my travel destination and preferred schedule, I will usually look to specific airline carriers' sites directly. For detailed information about a destination or lodging, I use tripadvisor.com. After doing my preliminary research there, I then go directly to the source sites when they are available.

I like to use a grid, where I can see what the price differences are if I fly on different days... so I can compare and decide, I hardly ever have to be somewhere on a certain day, so I like to save money, of course!

It would be nice to click what airport you can fly out of (or nearest you) and then have a list of great vacation locations ideas and prices of air travel and hotel average prices.... they do this with major airports but not smaller ones, like Omaha or Des Moines... that feature would be great for us in the midwest that are looking for winter vacations last minute!

I go to the customer reviews of hotels. The star ratings mean nothing to me, but hearing what someone actually says about a hotel, its staff, and location is invaluable.

more than anything we really need airlines to improve the planning and purchase of seats. we need to know the calendar / when the fare prices vary so we know when to plan the trip. weather . customer reviews of hotels and activities. ground transportation or logistical information rental car information, bus or train information .

I generally go from Airport to Airport, check the routes, choose my Airline and then go to their specific Web Site. I like to do that from home, when I've no one disturbing me, I never leave it to my Secretary. If I need local Intelligence I go to the City sites, check Google maps and work things out on my own.

I'm a CEO in the Aviation Business.

Hope this helps your R&D stats

price and ease of tools to find things and no stinking flashing ads

I USE HOTWIRE.COM OR PRICE-LINE AND USUALLY CHECK ON WEDNESDAYS ....I NEVER DO PACKAGES EXCEPT TO LAS VEGAS AND I USE ALLIGIANTAIR ...THEY HAVE AWESOME DEALS.

Generally by time I get to a travel website I have already chosen my destination and reasons for. What I am most inerested in are ways to get there and their related costs.

I recently booked 2 trips and what I liked best was knowing how far from the airport, beach, I would be. Where you can take public transport. Map of the surrounding city is very important.

I use www.Orbitz.com to book my flights but I don't do any more than that.

I like to start with airfares, since they're usually the largest single expense. I like a site with flexible search options because I would rather pick my dates according to when the lowest fare is available than choose an exact date first.

Once I've settled on a destination, I like to look at activities. I like to see links to multiple providers so I can shop around and compare the various options.

I love to see what other travelers experienced or can recommend. It influence my choices when looking for a hotel in a city that I never visited.

1. Number of seats left on that flight

2. Autofill on destination airport codes

3. Travel packages

4. Seats at a discounted price

5. Whether a meals or snacks served on the flight

6. Option to add on hotel room, car rentals, and destination attraction packages.

You know what else would be helpful, a notice on how long the price displayed will remain that way, or when it will change.

I love to look at, and compare, lodgings.

These days, whenever I'm planning a trip, I look at the luggage and carryon restrictions. It often has too much superfluous language that I have a hard time understanding it and often it's disorganized page with minimal examples.

I also look at the unaccompanied minor section and requirements and fees entailed.

I do also rely on the tips the airlines give you about when to arrive to get to your flight on time, baggage tips, etc. because they might make or break my trip.

My favorite section is user opinions or user reviews on hotels, restaurants, activities/excursions, etc.

By far, the most helpful tool on any travel website I use (which include TripAdvisor, Expedia, and Travelocity) is any part with user reviews - mostly for hotel rooms. I tend to like to go with hotel names I know, but for ones I don't, reviews by other people usually make it easier to decide whether it's a hotel worth staying in or not.

This comment thing would be helpful for airlines as well. I recently flew with an airline and the trip with them was such a pain in the butt both going to and coming from our destination that I will never use them again. I don't know if other people have had similar experiences or not, but I think reading other people's opinions could help be a deciding factor along with ticket prices and layover and flight times.

well me & my family usually travel with United Airlines and there website has most of the things i need like early online check in, flight progress, plane models and specks, Car rentals, hotels, international, ect

I used to fly with Delta but my last expierience was horrible.

I don't know why but i had my laptop in a carry on and one of the attendance took it and threw it to the back of the plane, breaking my laptops screen.

I often read questions like this asking the consumers opinion on different things, (like the company has genuine concern for the consumer) when in reality the consumers desire for a particular type of service is often offered the opposite of what they want.

How can I travel in Europe backpacking without carrying much luggage?

I am a young lady intending to travel next year to Europe and go backpacking around Europe. I love to shop whenever I arrive at a new place & I just can't help but buy. If I am traveling alot I'll have to carry less baggage with me so please help me plan my trip. Your contributions are much appreciated. Thanks all.

Carry bare essentials only since you will be shopping. Try mailing stuff back to your home by the cheapest possible route- i.e by sea. When packing use the 50% rule i.e. afer packing , try removing half. Happy travelling.

Perhaps you can donate your clothes every other week and then buy new clothes...that way you can travel without too much baggage.

Have fun~

What are the pros and cons of using a travel agent to plan a vacation to Brazil?

Hello Everyone! My girlfriend wants to travel to Brazil next year for carnival, and would like to use a travel agent to plan our arrangements, while I would much rather plan everything on my own using the internet as a primary resource. Could anyone tell me the benefits and negative aspects of using a travel agent to plan a vacation of this type? Also, I would really appreciate it if anyone who recently traveled to Rio De Janiero could share some opinions and perhaps "insider" tips on traveling to this destination. Thank you.

Hello, I can give you some tips, first of all, you really don't need to use a travel agent to come here. Everything here is very cheap. The people normally don't speak English, but you will fell welcome in almost places you go.

Try to search another place to go, Rio de Janeiro is the most dangerous town in our country.

Recife is a very Beautiful place and it has a famous carnival parade, "o galo da madrugada". Where there are almost 2 million people walking, dancing and singing trough the streets for 3 miles.

The beaches around this town are marvelous. "Porto de Galinhas"..."Tamandare"....."Boa Viagem"....You will apreciate.

Good luck and be wellcome.

Travel agencies tend to have discounts (deals with airlines and hotels). The savings can be up to $500. Your savings will absolutely increase if you use a Brazil Travel agency. Deal with Brazilians -- they will get you the most savings.

Rio is no more beautiful than any other coastal city! As with any major city in the world, you will find over crowded streets and a higher crime rate......Why not try to visit a few smaller cities along the coast during your stay? The Carnival celebrations are just as BIG! If you want you can contact me through our website.

How do I travel with my fish via airplane?

I'm leaving for Oregon at the end of September and my only pet i have, a Beta fish, is traveling with me. But i havent a clue how thats gonna work, since supposidly you can't even travel with water bottles on some flights. Any suggestions or answers would be great. Thanx

Ok listen get on one "pet flight"that is plane where they have special places on the plane for pets it is really easy!

hope that helps,

Kirstin

Sorry darlin, your fish wont beable to go with you. because the fish will be in a liquid which came from a non sterile area, it wont be allowed. And if you want to go so far as to letting that fish go in your luggage also not a good idea. If the cargo area isnt heated it will freeze, so you will have a frozen fish at about 30,000 ft.

Sorry.

well i would call the airline mabe they will let you hold it in your seat if the longitude wouldnt kill it

No liquids on any flight, I'm glad so many people are taking this as a joke. If it were your family that got killed September 11th you wouldn't be joking about any of this. So, you want your fish so bad, DRIVE.

BTW don't count on the rules changing for a long time, glad so many non airport/government people know so much more.

Contact your airline, ask them for help to accomodate your fish.

Purchase an ice chest ( heavy ) and duct tape . Have the fish cleaned and packed on ice If it's more than 2 days use dry ice. I;ve fished in Mexico and shipped them back as checked luggage. Good fishing.

I don't think you can once again delta.com

My suggestion would be to ship it to yourself. There are specialty shipping companies that can do this for you.

Good luck!

All I can suggest is to call your airline...

by the end of September they will change the rules again but I would call the airline you are going with and find out what their policy is.

Call the airline you are planning to travel on and ask them. Other than that, I think you might have to let a friend or family member babysit your fishie for a while.

contact the airline company about it

good luck...

Give your fish to some one you know, like and trust.

buy another one when you get to where your going.

any other option is too complicated or expensive.

it shouldn't be a problem as long as its package and labeled correctly as live stock all animals travel in the hold even fish your local pet shop might be able to help with info on packing fish for transporting

WOW that is a good question? ? ? ? ? ?

good luck with finding an answer.

How can one travel to their point of origin from a divergent universe?

How can a person travel into the future of their original time line, what might be considered their "present", given that once in the past, a divergent time line is necessary to preserve continuity? Seems that once a person travels back in time, it may be impossible to go back "home".

Not possible, You will only be able to travel along your alternate timeline. Recent Theory suggests it's possible by locating the exact sweet spot between a White hole and a Black hole, but most of us think that will only result in your being squished.

why, what did you do???

How much can you make as a travel agent?

Thinking of taking an online course through Penn & Foster for the travel industry to become a travel agent. Thinking of stopping by a local travel agency to ask them questions. But thought I would ask here first. Any travel agents out there? How much do you make?

Hello,

I am a travel agent. First, I will say that in this industry, your success depends on you. A travel agent has an unlimited earning potential. My husband and I together are travel agents and we love it. We've been travel agents since January, and already, we haven't looked back! We work out of our home, and we set our own hours!!

You know what, I'm going to save you some of the $$$ that you were about to dole out to Penn Foster, click this link, and when you're on the front page, click "view the company presentation" http://www.cassandralane.org

I don't know if i would agree. I am a travel agent for a online travel site.

http://www.cassandralane.org/ is YTB. YTB is being investigated for Fraud for a pyramid scheme by the state of CA. As a travel agent I make a descent living. You just make sure you have a way to get clients. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080702215722AAis0rl&kid=A6F2HkPOWVfLZ03Ax8Io&s=comm&date=2008-12-04+15%3A40%3A22&.crumb=

Is November good enough to travel thru Madagascar or is the rain going to spoil my vacation?

I would like to travel to Madagascar in November until mid December (6 weeks). But I keep reading that it is rainy season during that time. Unfortunately that's the only time when my boss let's me go on holiday. Is it still good enough to travel thru Madagascar when it is rainy season or will it be too stressy and difficult to travel around?

Most rain here falls between November and March, much of it in heavy downpours with hail and thunder. Rainfall during the rest of the year is mostly very light and sporadic. On the plateau temperatures fall to moderate levels during the dry season and the nights may be chilly, but frost only occurs on the highest mountains.

For climatic reasons tourists prefer the inter-season (April - May - June - July - August - September - October - November - December)

FOR YOUR INFO

last year during Nov there were 28,511 international tourists in Madagascar compared to 16,089 in Feb,

During October 32,364

October seems to be the favorite.

But Nov is in the very first part of "winter" season.

ENJOY

Check out these pictures of Madagascar...http://www.picstropical.com/madagascar/ ...you will love it http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080204072627AAmhE4e&kid=MM1YJmnBFGUkHzBno4LQ&s=comm&date=2008-06-08+11%3A12%3A42&.crumb=

I was in Madagascar (Antananarivo the entire time) in January and February, and it rained every day from mid-afternoon until nighttime. I walked and took taxis everywhere I went, so even with a long, heavy raincoat, I was soaked from the shoulders up and the knees down. Fortunately, it is approaching summertime during November and December (because it's the southern hemisphere), so it will be very warm. That was what made the rain bearable.

I had a wonderful experience and I fell in love with the country and the people, so if the rainy season is the only time you can go, do it! Just know that you will need extra travel time wherever you go, and that you are not likely to get there dry. Invest in a good pair of Chacos (you don't want to wear socks all day if your feet will be wet), insect repellent, and something that will keep your camera dry, because you will want pictures! Have fun!

How long before travel is the cheapest time to buy international airline tickets from Australia?

How long before travel is the cheapest time to buy international airline tickets from Australia. We are travelling late January 2008

This all depends on whether the airlines are having seat sales, and where you are travelling to. You would most likely need to purchase the tickets a couple of months in advance.

Start looking around for some prices now, that way you can get an idea on what the standard prices are, and you will know when a good deal comes out :)

Flight Centre usually has the most competitive airfares out of Australia. Check out their website: http://www.flightcentre.com.au/

You can also check http://www.onlinetravel.com.au/ and see what they have to offer.

Make sure that you understand the rules and restrictions of an airfare...something might be a couple of hundred dollars cheaper, but have a whole list of restrictions that may cause you problems down the road if you need to cancel and/or change your plans. You should also pay the extra money and purchase cancellation and trip interruption travel insurance :)

I live and travel to and from America often and found the cheapest was at

http://www.flightcenter.rovia.com

I got tickets for 850$ cheaper than anywhere else. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070517005218AARh9vw&kid=ArdYCFvZJVS7DfSkAYmi&s=comm&date=2009-03-16+15%3A41%3A32&.crumb=

How do I travel from London to France via train?

This weekend (12th April-13th April) I need to get from London to Berck Sur Mer in France (roughly about a 2 hour drive west along the coast from Calais) for the kite festival.

I will be travelling on my own and the travel websites aren't being very helpful as they are either for train journeys within the UK or just within France. Please help someone!

Berck-sur-Mer doesn't seem to be served by railway, but nearby villages as Verton and Le Touquet/Etaples does. You'll need to use the Eurostar from London to France then do a minimum of two changes with local trains and/or buses.

My favotire trick to search in european timetables is the swiss federal railway's website available at:

http://www.sbb.ch/en/index.htm

or the french verision if you prefer:

http://www.cff.ch

Go to a travel agent in the UK.

They should be able to work out everything for you, as well as supply the tickets you need. It's what they do.

Have a look at this website:- http://www.seat61.com/

It's very helpful about rail travel throughout Europe.

What are your suggestions for an ideal travel agency or travel assistant experience?

Today's travel has become very hectic, and there are a lot of complaints about service. What are the things that a travel assistant service would do in an ideal world? What kinds of services would they provide and how could they make the experience of planning travel as easy and enjoyable as possible?

Planning is the enjoyable part. The difficult/stressful part is the actual traveling. I would want a service that is available to help me if/when flights are canceled or delayed. Also, what about getting to a hotel and finding it's substandard? I would want someone who could quickly get me to a better place.

How to travel to EU when passport name different than other documents?

HELP!!!

I have a Colombian passport and need to travel to the EU. My passport has my before family last name but I got married and took my husband's last name. Now all my documents including the green card has my new last name.

The tickets were issued with my new last name (though the company I work for) but they do not match the passport names. Colombia doesn't change the passport names.

Will I have a problem to apply for the Schengen visa or travel to the EU?

Any answers much apreciated!!!

Thanks!

You must apply for a new passport. They will not let you in unless all documents match. When you get married or divorce or have any kind of a name change, it must be on your passport. If not, you won't be allowed to enter.

How do you get work at Travel Channel, National Geographic as a travel photographer? Or as anything?

I want to work for travel channel, it must be my job to travel the world. Im studying film directing and taking photography courses. How and where do you think i should get a job that will allow me to travel?

Thanks a mil...

Photographers for National Geographic are at the top of their field. Don't expect to get an offer right out of photography school. Look for a job that pays the rent first. Having discouraged you, let me say that there is hope. I attended one of their seminars, which was an excellent orientation to the field. Here is the link to the schedule: http://ngtravelerseminars.com/. In the one I attended, there was a section for pitching ideas. If they heard something that sounded interesting then they pursued it. They seek the kind of imagery that tells a story. It's not the stuff you can buy in a postcard store. So travel and bring your camera. Look for the unique, rare, or surprising and which conveys an emotion or evokes one in the viewer. Build up your experience. Hone your skills. Be self-critical. A good photographer can get a winning shot with a 3 megapixel camera, while a hack will still get junk from an $8,000 DSLR.

Most of the world has already been photographed ad nauseum so there are already millions of pictures out there. Yours have to be different.

It can be because of things that are happening, news events etc. It could be because you have some specialist knowledge in another field such as birds, animals or plants hydro electric schemes, oil exploration, humanities etc. Yes an eclectic mix, but it's your specialist knowledge that's important, not your photographic skills, though they have to be high too.

Look at the articles in National Geographic they all have some theme other than photography. They are beautiful photographs, so their photography skills are high, but it's their knowledge of Global Warming or the tribesmen of the Amazon or some similar specialty that got them there.

Chris

omg that is sucha good question, i have always wanted to do the same too, i am also taking photography courses... I can't wait too see what type of answers you get.

Good luck!

How to travel cheap around Europe via Train?

I'm planning to travel to Switzerland, Austria and Czech Rep this summer via train from UK. One of the cheapest options is to buy the Global Pass, which is only for European residents. However I'm not a European resident, which means that I need to find another cheap options to travel. Can anyone give any suggestions?

The global Interrail pass is for European residents. The global Eurail pass is for non-European residents.

So look at Eurail passes, but take into account that Czech Republic and the Eurostar are not part of the Eurail pass.

http://www.eurail.com

I personally would fly from the UK to Switzerland and from Prague to the UK. For Czech Republic I would by point-to-point tickets, for Switzerland and Austria I would compare point-to-point with national rail passes.

See www.whichbudget.com for flights

plane is cheaper than train in europe !

flying is actually cheaper then traveling by train in europe.

How can Electromagnetic Radiation travel without a medium?

If Electromagnetic Radiation can travel through the vacuum of space then it can travel without a medium, but shouldn't this be imposable? Or is it true that Electromagnetic Radiation uses the medium of existing magnetic fields, such as earths, distorting these fields much like sound waves do to air? And if so how can this have a direction of travel?

Electromagnetic waves travel through a vacuum and any other physical medium slows or stops their progression. They do not use existing magnetic fields as a medium, though they do interact with them.

An electromagnetic wave is nothing more than an a propagation of a changing electric and magnetic field. these fields are always perpendicular to each other and travel in the direction of E x B, where E and B are vectors indicating the direction of these fields.

Its because these are electric and magnetic fields. These fields are just regions where forces are exerted on charged particles, they are not made of particles themselves in the same way that sound waves are made from air molecules.

All waves need a medium for its moving force to propagate.A magnetic field Flux is a medium;it has the dimension of time measured in seconds

An electric field is a variable force per unit Charge. It has the dimension of inverse distance measured in meter^-1. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20081201151432AAn1Qrt&kid=NbUvWjC7VTjkVggWimge&s=comm&date=2008-12-23+04%3A19%3A12&.crumb=

When you regard electromagnetic radiation as being composed of particles instead of waves, there is no question. Indeed, the particle-wave duality is rather confusing, but the simple truth is that sometimes we must regard it is a particle, and other times a wave, depending on what we are doing.

How a travel portal is created? What can be the cost of creating a travel portal?

A travel portal needs a website but how the airlines, hotels, cruises, buses, rails are linked. Is it GDS or linking of individual airlines websites, etc. I need more information on this

They are linked through affiliate links. You go to the websites and sign up to become an affiliate. Lets pretend you want to make links on your website to travelocity flights for airlines....so you go to travelocity.com and look at the bottom of the website. You will see the words "affiliate program" in small letters. Like this: http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w106/JordanPar23/travelocity.png

Click on that to sign up. Once you sign up, travelocity would give you links for whatever flights you need links for. They may even have links that self update if you want a website that updates itself. So if you want to promote hotels, find a hotel affiliate...check hotel.com...look at the bottom of their page for the words "affiliate" and sign up with them if you want to promote hotels....this is how you do it. Just sign up for affiliates, choose what you want to link to, get the links, and put the links on your site. Then you have to log in to the seperate websites to see how much money you are making. If you sign up for travelocity and hotels.com for example, you will have to sign in to both of them to see how much you have made for each.

I have not worked for a travel portal, but I used to be a website developer for an airline's website.

We first had to have a Sabre license. Many airlines use Sabre, but not all of them do. A Sabre license was pretty expensive - unless a person is very rich, they could not afford to buy one just for fun.

We could have written our own code to open a TN3270 connection to Sabre, and "screen scrape" but instead we purchased a Java library to do this. This library was called Datalex. I would imaging there are similar products available for .NET, etc.

I can travel standby anywhere for free. How can I make money with this ability?

I do know someone who has the same ability who travels back and forth to Japan to teach English. I also have thought of import/export, though I don't know much about it. Being an antiques scout/buyer was suggested to me. I doubt I could compete in the photoessay/travel writer category. Do you have any ideas? Thanks.

You can't. There was a time when a very minute number of passengers could standby--as a pre-approved courier--on a few select and rare international flights for very low prices, but since 9-11, those days are gone....

Baggage allowances are so low, and excess baggage fees so high, that couriering your own goods seems like a difficult way to make some cash--unless you're importing something like rare feathers, for example.

Keep in mind that if your travel is for work, and you actually perform work in another country, you might well be liable for tax on income earned there--further complicating the idea.

Have you considered going with older people who might need some assistance while travelling? Just an idea.

I think that if you read the fine print in whatever agreement gives you standby flight privilege, you'll find serious limitations on how and for what purpose you can use that privilege.

Additionally, there are zillions of other legal ramifications that you'd have to be aware ofâ€"being able to fly for free is in fact almost insignificant compared to these other considerations, if you want to do things legally.

I don't know if you're flying on an employee's privileges, but if you are...

It's against the rules of pass travel to use standby flights for business purposes. The employee could lose their benefits if the wrong people found out.

By the way, cigarettes are getting very expensive in the USA and Canada. I was in St. Maarten recenly and they cost about $1 per pack. In Canada $9.50.

You can't. I assume you have an employee pass. In this day and age ID's are thoroughly checked so no one else could use your pass.

How can I buy travel vouchers to give as a gift?

I would like to buy travel vouchers to give as a gift. They would be for travel originating in the UK - most likely to European destinations.

Ideally they could be redeamed online and could be spent on both air travel and hotels.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

You can buy airline vouchers directly from the airline - most offer them on their website. Virgin Atlantic offers "Virgin Vouchers" in denominations of £5, £10, £20 and £50. They're sent out in a stylish wallet along with a list of all the places where they can be used.

Here's the website w/ more info and where the vouchers can be used: http://www.thevirginvoucher.co.uk/info/where-can-i-spend-my-vouchers,28,AR.html

How does water travel up to our pipes if we live in a very high Apartment/work in an Office?

In Melbourne, Australia we have the Eureka Tower and Realto tower. How do water travel up to the highest floor?

They use hydraulic pump in water network to pump water from ground to the tank on the top of the building . Normally the pump works at night because at night, water pressure is higher .

They use water pumps.

What is the cheapest way to travel between Germany, France, and Belgium?

I am planning on flying into Frankfurt and would like to travel to Brussels and Paris. We have 10 days. What is the cheapest way to travel, while still being efficient with time?

My husband and his family have traveled in Europe several times. They have always stood by the Eurail as being the fastest and most efficient mode of travel.

Europe has a phenomenal rail system that will get you from Frankfurt to Brussels very quickly, once you are in Brussels you can take the chunnel from Brussels to Paris. Hope you have fun!

The Eurolines bus is the cheapest way to get around.

BTW, a lot of the websites that sell European train tickets are actually ripoffs, and you can get them a lot cheaper once you're in Europe.

All three has great bus and Train system but you are talking flying book ticket for all point - train from frankurt to Berlin took about 4 to 6 Hours but at that time the wall was there

get a euro rail travel pass to include all your destinations by far the cheapest way to get around.

How much does it cost to travel around South America?

I'm considering traveling around S. America for around 6 months to a year and wondered how much it would roughly cost. I would be back packing and am not expecting to sleep anywhere fancy or travel in luxery but I would like to hit some major cities for nights out as well as traveling to more remote places. Also if anyone knows the anyway to pick up casual work there to earn whilst I'm traveling that would be much appreciated. I don't speak much Spanish at the moment but fully intend on learning.

Ok. Transportation? Bus is the cheapest way.. Hostels abound.. but watch out for thieves and pickpockets. In most countries it is against the law to work without a work visa. Also, be careful. Being in a remote place in South America, alone and not speaking Spanish is a recipie for disaster or worse. Do some research before you go.

hmm if you want to travel in remote area you must take any qualified guide. We are offering cheap flights to travel all areas of USA. visit us- http://www.globester.com/ http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080728022616AAGAkci&kid=GMEmU1LLVFigze3_ekRp&s=comm&date=2008-08-08+00%3A24%3A14&.crumb=

I really don't know how much money you would need, I"m assuming at the very least around $5,000 for that long.

Should you happen to drop in on Medellin, Colombia you should check out the Tiger Paw Hostel. http://www.tigerpawhostel.com/index.html

Have fun on your trip!

How travel time and cost become substitutes or complement?

If we have travel time and travel cost, under what conditions can they be considered as substitues? Under what conditions can they be considered as complements?

When commuting to work people choose mode of transportation bases on a combination of time and cost, Public transportation or car pooling is cheaper than driving alone but takes more time, so people can substitute one for the other.

Vacation travel requires time so the more time you have for vacations the more money you will spend on transportation for travel, so time and cost will act as compliments.

In economic terms, 'substitutes' and 'complements' are used when dealing with goods and services only. Since travel time and costs are neither, you're question is probably in the wrong place.

If you want to expand the definition to mean does more of one thing lead to more or less of the other than maybe we can work that out. Travel time and travel costs would be complements of each other since more of one would mean more of the other (e.g. fuel, food, entertainment, opportunity costs).

Is it safe for a single woman to travel to thailand?

I am planning to go to a resort in Koh Phangan, but I am planning to travel there alone. I understand that traveling alone can be risky, but I want to know if there are any women who traveled to thailand alone? Did they feel safe?

It is safe for single women, but I am sure you will find many other single women traveling in Thailand. Things not to do is walk along in unlit areas or on the beach at night. Don't trust anyone who gets too friendly to fast with you. Don't do drugs, don't take a drink from someone you don't know unless it was given to you at the bar. Don't insult a Thai or make him lose face. Also don't insult the King of Thailand or his family. Follow these rules and you will have no problems.

I'd say your pretty safe, but just be careful ,and don't forget to be careful!.Try to keep some control and not just get completely mullered.Don't do stupid things that you wouldn't be happy doing at home as well.

Keep an eye on your drinks.

Don't be too trusting of people you have not known before(There's alot of idiots.)

Beware walking on the beach alone, and in quiet places late at night.

I'm sure you'll be fine though,Thailand on the whole is a reasonably safe place(Even if you are alone)

Probably as safe as anywhere nowadays but its better to travel as a couple, accommodation is charged by the room so its the same for one or two people and you have the extra security.

i've been there alone as a single woman and i loved every minute of it. going back next month. just use your common sense. there will be loads of other travellers you can buddy up with if u like

thailand is probably safer than your own home town.

It is certainly safer than mine! There are bad spots, but if you have common sense, no worries.

You will love it, but as a norm, you have to be very careful!

Don't go out alone, especially at night time.

Don't separate yourself from the crowd..

Beware of strangers!

I did it and loved it. I ended up meeting people there and hanging out with them so was never really alone. Thailand is fine!

Yep. but also safety first don't go walk alone in the sidewalk at night make sure it's a crowded place.

Deduct travel expenses from tripif photographing scenics & submitting them to stock photo businesses?

I'm a retired pro photographer and want to travel (with my husband as assistant) and take photos to submit to stock photography companies. Scenics, local cultures, wildlife, etc.

How much of my travel expenses can I legally deduct from my USA income tax? Opinions? Experiences?

If the principal purpose of your travel is for business then you can deduct those costs, but you must prorate them between the business and personal purposes.

If the principal purpose is personal then you can only deduct the portions of lodging and meals (at 50% on the meals) that are directly attributable to the business purpose. No travel and transportation is deductible.

If the IRS determines that this is more of a hobby than a true business they will further limit any deductions that are allowable to the income you generated from selling the pictures. In this case the income goes on line 21 of Form 1040 and the allowable expenses go on Schedule A as a Miscellaneous Deduction.

Is it better to have a career in travel or to travel for vacationing?

All I know is that I'm passionate about travel and would love to explore the world. However, I'm not sure whether a career in travel would turn out to be a positive option.

Is it better to travel on the job and work during the travels (such as a travel journalist), or simply have a well-paying job which will enable me to travel on vacation time?

If you find a career in travel to be fulfilling, do you have any job suggestions?

I think you would be better to get a good job and travel where and when you want. Most jobs in the travel industry do not pay that much and you work long and uneven hours. Some jobs that give great travel benefits don't allow you time to travel. If you get a job as a tour guide and get to go some places you want to see, but you will not really enjoy them because you will be busy with your tours.

I went to travel school with the thought of working as an agent as my second career. But the pay was too low for me. So now I just travel where I want.

I recently joined world Ventures where you can travel and get paid and paid for having others travel from your online business. sign up at www.flightcenter.worldventures... Delete http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070618204237AAaaaaD&kid=ArdYCFvZJVS7DfSkAYmi&s=comm&date=2009-03-16+16%3A08%3A09&.crumb=

I had corporate jobs for years, where I worked to pay for vacation. Being in the US, most of those years I had only 2 weeks vacation. Eventually I decided to start my own travel biz instead. Best decision I ever made! I'm my own boss, & get to travel at least 10 times more than I did before. :-) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070618204237AAaaaaD&kid=DoNxEjH8MG74ws_FZCgj&s=comm&date=2009-03-24+22%3A01%3A16&.crumb=

You are much better off having a well paying career, you will be able to travel more and at a higher standard. However a career in travel is a very good second choice.

All depends on how old you are. I loved traveling, went to travel school thinking I would work for airlines, however timing wasn't right so I opted for being a travel agent which used to have great benefits (not so anymore)....then I became a tour guide in the USA, then onto working on a cruise ship, then for an airline, onto hotels and back to travel agent.

So my suggestion is...if you are young, have NO TIES...like a house, lover, pet, etc. find jobs that will take you around the world that you will be paid at the same time...be aware tho, money is not that good in the travel industry, unless you get into an airline and work your way up....then pay is good...

If you want to make good money or have a family, get a good paying job and pay for trips.....its worth it.....good luck whatever you do.....another suggestion, if you have not seen the USA.....take a few weeks to see the western part of USA..and see all our beautiful national parks.....good luck

How much of worldwide air travel is freight and how much is passenger?

Trying to decide, given that travel really does broaden people's minds, whether air travel really is the evil some environmentalists claim.

It's 80% people and 20% freight

Is travel in Ecuador more dangerous for gringoes than other latin american countries?

I read some in a travel book and the warnings were so scary concerning assaults, weapons and kidnapping. I am now a little shy of travelling there and yet would like to go if it is safer than what I read. Anyone help?

I've been to Ecuador twice and traveled there extensively. If you travel smart and are aware of your surroundings, I don't believe it is dangerous. Of course, you have to be aware, especially of pick pocketers (and in Quito many young street children are the worst) so just make sure you keep your money and valuables close to you.

I heard a few stories of people being held up, but all of those people were carrying too much (one for instance had 4 cell phone and 2 cameras). Someone mentioned blending in and not wearing anything too flashy, that is good advice. In the time I spent there (over 2 months) I did hear of one story that occurred on the Columbian-Ecuador border, where rebels boarded a bus and robbed the riders. This is not meant to scare you from traveling Ecuador, as all of my experiences were WONDERFUL! I just wanted to give you all of the info I had.

Some things that would make your travels safer and easier:

Be able to speak some Spanish

Do not walk alone at night

Travel by taxis at night (especially in the cities)

Keep your valuables secure, but do not carry more than what is necessary

Walk around with your head up and confidently

Most of all, enjoy the beautiful place that is Ecuador, there are so many beautiful things to see and experience and Ecuadorians are such wonderful people.

Ecuador is safe, the stories you hear in the travel books I found them to be a bit more then what you are really going to experience, i was there last year for 5 weeks and going again in three weeks, just be aware be smart and you should be fine , most crime in ecuador is of the none violent type meaning pick pocket, cameras stollen from bag ect.... have a good time in one of the most beautiful country in the world....ren

There is no real safe place in travel. At airports around the world crimes are committed even at the counters. If you are not careful at a glance your belonging is gone.So put in your mind 'SAFETY' at all times.

Traveling with a local in any country is always safer than traveling by yourself.Should you need a travel guide be sure he or she is from the travel agency. Always travel in groups.Avoid going into dark and secluded places. If you have a camera and you want someone to take a snapshot of you,let your companion do the shooting.Don't make the mistake of letting the" guy in the area" do it or he will take a shot of you and he will also take your camera and ran!!

Always remember that danger is always present.Even at home!!

DON'T GET COZY WITH THOSE SWEET TALKING GUYS! IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE PROBLEMS!! STAY AWAY FROM THEM.THEY ARE AFTER SOMETHING.

You have to be smart wherever you go, but Ecuador is not any more dangerous than other places. I was there last week and never felt threatened. But always keep your guard up while traveling. Listen to other tips people give you about staying safe.

Enjoy Ecuador. It is a beautiful country with lots to see and do.

I travel extensively thruout latin America and find most places to be fine as long as you travel smart...blend in as much as possible...no wearing expensive jewelry or watches (or even fakes that might look expensive)...no goiong out partying all night and tryin to find your hotel dead drunk or going home with that hottie you just met...no flashing wads of money or piles of credit cards...Just use common sense and you will be fine...enjoy learn and hopefully make some new friends.

I lived two years in ecuador,it is very safe if your reasonably careful in the big cities. All the kidnappings of foriegners were employees of the oil companies.

If your out late in guayaquil or Quito, use a taxi.

and take plenty of small bills. Even changing a ten can be hard for some of the businesses.

Banos was a very nice, and safe town

No where is safe, just be careful. And have fun.
