How much does it cost to travel around South America?

I'm considering traveling around S. America for around 6 months to a year and wondered how much it would roughly cost. I would be back packing and am not expecting to sleep anywhere fancy or travel in luxery but I would like to hit some major cities for nights out as well as traveling to more remote places. Also if anyone knows the anyway to pick up casual work there to earn whilst I'm traveling that would be much appreciated. I don't speak much Spanish at the moment but fully intend on learning.

Ok. Transportation? Bus is the cheapest way.. Hostels abound.. but watch out for thieves and pickpockets. In most countries it is against the law to work without a work visa. Also, be careful. Being in a remote place in South America, alone and not speaking Spanish is a recipie for disaster or worse. Do some research before you go.

hmm if you want to travel in remote area you must take any qualified guide. We are offering cheap flights to travel all areas of USA. visit us- http://www.globester.com/ http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080728022616AAGAkci&kid=GMEmU1LLVFigze3_ekRp&s=comm&date=2008-08-08+00%3A24%3A14&.crumb=

I really don't know how much money you would need, I"m assuming at the very least around $5,000 for that long.

Should you happen to drop in on Medellin, Colombia you should check out the Tiger Paw Hostel. http://www.tigerpawhostel.com/index.html

Have fun on your trip!

TRAVEL ?

If you travel at a constant speed and the distance you travel varies directly with your travel timeSuppose in 1.5 hours you can walk 5 miles What is the costant of variation and how did you find this?

You divide the numer of miles travelled by the number of hours and the result - the constant of variation - is 3.66 (recurring) miles per hour.

What is the easiest way to travel from Scotland to Glastonbury?

I would like to travel from Scotland to Glastonbury (the actual town, not the festival) but don't have a car. What is the easiest way to do this? (I will be travelling from either Edinburgh or Glasgow.) Thanks to anyone who can help :)

you could get the scotland -manchester train then the manchester -birmingham then the brimingham- castle cary.

Depends on your finances and timescale.......

Fly is quicker

Maybe train, change at Birmingham.

You will get to see more if you drive although it would take quite a while. And car hire is quite expensive.

Train or National Express Coach to Bristol. And then get on the 375/376 Bus Service from Bristol Bus Station, and it will drop you right in the middle of Glastonbury Town,

To answer the question precisely, I would say a helicopter is the easiest way to get there as you can land pretty much anywhere you like.

best to fly down to bristol airport with easy jet id imagine then hire a car once you get here.

Catch a National Express East Coast train from Edinburgh to London Kings Cross; then the Underground Circle or Hammersmith & City Lines to Paddington. From Paddington a First Great Western train will take you to Casrtle Cary, the nearest station to Glastonbury. Taxis are available at Castle Cary Station to take you the few miles to Glastonbury. Through tickets can be bought to cover the entire journey and the further you book in advance the cheaper they will be. Visit the ticket office/travel centre at any major railway station.

The quickest way is probably via London. From Edinburgh, you could get the train to London and then the train to Castle Cary. It takes about 7 hours according to thetrainline.com. From Glasgow it's about 8 hours.

Or you could go via Birmingham New Street if you don't fancy heading into London. At New Street, get the train to Bristol Parkway, and then the train to Castle Cary

From Castle Cary you'll need to get a bus

What is the best month to Travel to Bahamas and Orlando?

Hi, I am planning to travel to Bahamas Cruise for a week this year. What are the best timings to travel to Bahamas and Orlando Area in Florida?

It kind of depends on what you are looking for. I assume you are traveling from Port Canaveral for the cruise. Rates will be lower during value season, which is during hurricane season. I've never had a problem during hurricane season, so it is not something you absolutely have to avoid.

If you are planning to go to some theme parks while in Orlando, than you will want to go when school is in session. The crowds will be lowest. So the best time is in Fall, Winter or Spring. The weather is also nicer during this time, these are the most enjoyable times to go.

Hope this helps!

Anytime but hurricane season which starts in July and goes thru to December. It rains all the time.

The best time to go is during the winter months. It is much cheaper for you and who ever else is going.

As a general rule I like to go the last week of April through the middle of May for several reasons. It's not Hurricane Season. It isn't too hot but still warm enough for everthing in the water. Spring break is over for everyone and Summer vacation hasn't started yet, so you aren't going to deal with either of those crowds. Fishing is good that time of year, my personal favorite hobby. That's my opinion (leaving on cruise in 36 days).

How do travel agents check hotel availabilities?

I know that travel agents have various IATA systems (SABRE used to be one of them) for checking airline flight availability.

But how about hotels?

I mean if I tell my travel agent I want to stay in a one bedroom room in

City X between dates Y and Z, how does the travel agent find out what is available?

Is there something similar to the airline reservation system, only for hotels?

What is it called?

It depends on the agent. Some will fax, call or email the hotel they have contracts with to check availability. Other companies - the larger ones - will have a pre-bought or pre-assigned quota of rooms from the hotels they have contracts with and will usually have an internal computer system similar to Sabre to check the availability of their quota. When I was an agent, we used to make the bookings by fax and email as we specialised in independent travel rather than package holidays. Phone calls don't really cut it as you need to receive confirmation in writing. Now, some hotels have online booking systems that allow registered agents to access a special agents' area and book that way - technology is a wonderful thing.

Hotels are available through the major airline reservation systems. In the US, they are Sabre, Apollo, and Worldspan. Amadeus is also used but is much less common. In the pre-Internet days, that's how we did most hotel reservations.

Some reservations are made by phone and fax because the airline systems don't always have last-room availability. Some agents also use the Internet.

Some third-party websites, such as Expedia and Hotels.com, have special pricing arrangements with selected hotels. The fares and inventory for these are kept in an internal database or through a direct link to the hotel company's computer system. However, the non-special rate hotels are booked through the airline systems.

The major airline systems also have car rental and train information.

Most of them use websites like BookMe.com to compare the prices of thousands of hotels within 60 seconds... You could do this yourself and save yourself time and save the money you are spending on them...

http://bookme.com/test/index3.html

Its called a computer. Yes its like an airline reservation system

there lots of websites for checking this out

including the hotel group's own website

**picks up phone**

Hello do you have availabilty?

What is the best way to travel around thailand?

im landing in bangkok and am planning to travel down to Phuket. Please can you recommend away to travel. if anyone knows any routes from experience then please feel free to Tellme.

You have a long ride on a bus or van or a much shorter ride in a plane. Up to you!

Too many tourists want to jump off the plane bringing them to BKK and hop on the next plane flying to Phuket - without even knowing what airport they are flying out of or even if they have enough time between flights!

Stay in Bangkok for a few days, you can book a flight when you are in Bangkok if you want. Some flights leave from Don Muang (DMK) and some leave from Suvarnabhumi (BKK.) Even in Bangkok you can get a tan just walking around. See Bangkok for a while, take in a couple tours, do some shopping and get used to the time changes and heat. Plan on the last night in Bangkok too so you don't have to worry about a last minute connecting flight being late and you miss your ride home.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=How+to+get+to+Phuket+from+Bangkok&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=

Good luck.

Trains in Thailand are also an easy & inexpensive way to travel. Overnight trains (get 2nd class w/AC) are perfect for trips to Chiang Mai from Bangkok. Train employees at the Bangkok train station will assist you (no charge) and are extremely helpful. I just returned from a month's travel. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20081105061618AAxidpU&kid=LrEoAFX9LlZKDbx7dsxD&s=comm&date=2008-11-07+00%3A13%3A29&.crumb=

For just Bkk to Phuket I would recommend just flying for the quickness and convenience.

If you want to see a bit of the country between, I would get a scheduled or tourist bus. Theis is extremely cheap and you get the advantage of seeing the sights.

If you fly, once in Phuket you have the islands close by but would also say hire a car or hire a private taxi and head down to Krabi.

There is also a great national park near Krabi called 'Than Bokkerani' that is an amazing natural site.

Fly Driving or the bus will tale 10-12 hours and the plane is pretty cheap (about 4150 baht or about $118 Round trip).

Check Air Asia has 8 flights a day

http://www.airasia.com/site/th/en/home.jsp

It depend on your budget and period of time you will be in Thailand.

Tha fastest is flying using low cost airlines, but it is more expensive than airconditioned bus or firstclass train.

Which is the most convenient way to travel in Spain ?

Greetings,

I am planning to go on a 10 day trip in Spain starting with the 17th of September 2007. I will be arriving in Barcelona, but still I want to visit some of the others Spain cities as well. For now I think at: Sevillia, Madrid, Granada, Valencia. Can anyone indicate me a cheap and fast way to travel through Spain. Is it by train ? Is it by bus ? Is it by low cost air operators ? It would be great if you could also tell me which company I should choose.

I will tell you right off the bat that you would really be rushing it to try to do justice to all those places in ten days. With Barcelona as your starting point -- you are 1130 Kilometers or 700 miles from Seville. It's a five hour train ride from Barcelona to Madrid.

The best way to really see Spain is by car in my opinion and car rental is about the same price as train fare between major cities -- although you really don't need a car in any of the major cities you mentioned -- but you can miss a lot of stuff that is in between major destinations.

I think you need at least three days in both Barcelona and Madrid. You can also take the AVE a very fast train that can get you to Cordoba from Madrid in 2 hours and Seville in 2 1/2 hours. The AVE doens't run to Barcelona but does leave from Llieda which is about an hour away from Barcelona.

Maybe you should Consider just doing Barcelona and Madrid and making side trips to Toledo near Madrid and Girona near Barcelona using train or renting car in Barcelona after your visit and driving to Madrid taking a couple of days staying at a place llike Cuenca, Zaragosa or Segobriga for the night and explore the countryside a bit also, the landscape is beautiful and extremely varied and there are castles, Roman Ruins, and smaller villages to explore. Then drop of the car in Madrid..

Just some stuff to think about.

By Train. Renfe is reliable or if you want to pay a little more then take a few flights. They aren´t as expensive as you think..

Take care..

Bcn_mimosa from Barcelona, Spain

Within Spain, I would travel by train. If you are American, you can purchase a train pass that will let you hop on and off the train for a certain number of days, for a good price.

If not, if you have internet access, you can pretty much play it by ear. Otherwise, try to plan your trip ahead of time. Almost all cities have a tourism office that can help you arrange transportation. Bring a list of their addresses with you. They are very helpful.

I recommend Train for comfort and speed . Please check

www.renfe.es. The pages can be translated from Spanish.

Hope this is helpful

Train is possibly the best way, as all those cities are very well connected. If you are from outside Europe, you could get a rails pass, which is quite affordable. Website www.renfe.es. Also less hassle as by car, as suggested, specially for parking, paying toll and more. I do not suggest bus. They drive through almost every town on their way from A to B. And flights within Spain are usually not that cheap.

Train for sure

What is the best airline to travel if you are in the military?

What airline gives the best discount for military personnel?

What are some suggestions to saving on travel if you are military? (I know about "space available" travel already)

Flying from Portland, Or to San Diego.

Thanks

Space A is probably something to look at.

But if you have access to AKO/DKO they have a link in there somewhere (been there once or twice) that gives the locations of military discounts.

Also check out www.military.com they have a section too i think other then that i do not know just call and ask. I do know if you go amtrak they have a pretty good discount.

How do online travel companies manage hotel bookings/availability?

Most people are familiar with online travel sites that allow you to book hotels directly (often at cheaper rates than through a travel agent, or even if you contact the hotels directly).

So how do the online travel websites manage their accomodation stock? For example, are they somehow connected in to each hotels room management system and thereby able to see whether rooms are available?

OR

Do the hotels offer up a block of rooms to each of the online travel sites for them to exclusively sell?

If someone works in the hotel industry, perhaps they might know.

Hi,

The hotel I work for deals with several different online companies, and we do indeed offer them each only a few rooms. We are also able to do what is known as 'closing out' which means that if we are starting to get full we can go onto each website and tell it not to sell anymore rooms for us. This can also be done with a specific type of room so say we are starting to get full on double bedded rooms we can 'close out' on those but continue to sell the websites allocation of twin bedded and single bedded rooms.

Hope that helps.

I think hotels offer up blocks of rooms to sites and adjust these according to how busy they get.

Jem G ! What a brilliant answer - I never understood how the system worked until I read your reply to this question. Uncle Rico - give that person 10 points ! lol !

What is the cheapest way to travel to Toronto to NewYork?

I am going to Toronto in August and by the end of August we are going to NewYork. My bro research the cheapest travel but there was no luck. The travel is expensive, if i spend hundreds of dollars of that, I can't spend so much in NewYork. (Sadly)

Any suggestions by train, bus, or airplane? By anything?

Thanks*

i was in a similar situation, i found the best way was to catch a greyhound bus, it takes all night and stops a lot of times but you get there, and leaves and arrives in the center of both cities, so no airport transfers $85 one way, $170 return, i stayed at the YMCA in NYC it was pretty cheap and right in the city and safe and secure

another option is to hire a car it might work out cheaper if there is two of you.

probably by greyhound bus or train

Cheapest: walk or hitch hike (may be illegal in NY state)

Next cheapest, bus.

Airplane is expensive.

NYC is EXPENSIVE.

really , really wanna get there and you will find a way of your own. asking questions won't make it so, get on the road.

How can radio waves continue to travel for ever in outer space?

How can radio waves continue to travel for ever in outer space?

On earth the radio waves from your favorite radio or TV station will only go 100 miles or so at the very most, but NASA and Astronomers say that they will travel almost for ever, or at least Billions and Trillions of miles with out stopping.

How is that possible?

Voyager 1 is so far from Earth in 1998 that it takes 9 hours 36 minutes for a radio signal traveling at the speed of light to reach Earth. Voyager's signal, produced by a 20 watt radio transmitter, is so faint that the amount of power reaching NASA's antennas is 20 billion times smaller than the power of a digital watch battery. Think that they will eventual fade into the noise of background radiation. We don't know if our signals can leave the Sun's magnetic heiloshpere

On earth, propagation is limited by the earth's curvature. A television transmitter throws hundreds of kilowatts to go thirty miles or so, but an aircraft can talk to an ATC radio a hundred miles away with only eight watts of power because there is nothing in the way. At large distances, 1/r^2 becomes important, but with suitable antennas we can talk to spacecraft a billion miles away: there is nothing but empty space in the way.

Radio waves on earth are either line of sight (FM or TV) or broadcast. The former can only be picked up when the earth has not curved out of their path. The latter in spreading soon become weak enough that the other signals being generated overwhelm them.

All of these signals, in theory, can go on forever in space, but in practice become so weak that they can not be detected. An indication of how far they can go is the very low wattage of the transmitters on the Mars orbiters and landers, which are sent and received with dish antennas with digital correction for lost bits. Harder to find is the wattage of the distant transmissions from the satellites that went beyond Neptune, which had to be received with very large dish antennas.

Remember that radio waves and light waves are the same phenomena: electromagnetic radiation. The light you see from stars traveled thousands and probably millions of light years. You can see them, because:

1. stars give off intense light

2. there is nothing blocking your view of light

A similar story holds for radio waves.

How much will gas cost to travel 700 km in Ireland?

I am planning a vacation to Ireland this Spring. The total trip travel will be about 700 km. How much will that cost? In either Euro or Dollar?

Assuming you'll rent a small car like a Corsa/Fiesta/Peugeot 207, and the current price for petrol, you should spend about 10 euro every 100km... so I would budget about $100/$120 for petrol. Take into consideration unplanned detours... even if you have maps and sat nav, I guarantee you ARE going to get lost at least once in the countryside and drive around in tears for an hour until you find a road sign... :-)

Enjoy your holiday, you'll love it here!

Currently petrol is just over €1 a litre, and diesel is just under €1 per litre.

I think 700 km isn't very far, roads here are twisty and you will find that you go off the beaten track from time to time. $75 won't get you very far .... Share the cost with someone, you'll pay 3 times that easily, if not more.

a super maths problem?

should get 40mpg (miles per gallon)

ie 40x8/5kmpg

ie 40x8/5x1/5kmpl

ie 12.8kmpl

today petrol sold at exactly euro1/l in my town

ie 12.8kmpe

ie 700kmp55euro

euro55 please chiching. hope you're coming soon. budget is about to up the price of petrol

What need a canadian citizen to travel to brasil?

I hear that you need a visa to travel to brasil,is it true? I'm Canadian citizen and i'm 21 years and i want to go to the Brasil what i need?

A valid Canadian passport is required for all Canadians, including children, intending to visit Brazil. It is recommended that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond the date of your expected departure from the country. There have been cases where Canadians were refused entry for not having the six-month validity. In addition, all Canadians are required to have a valid visa prior to their arrival in Brazil which must be obtained from a Brazilian consulate, and the visa must be used within 90 days of issuance. Otherwise, they will be refused entry into the country. The source provide shows the visa requirements for Brazil.

Source(s):

http://www.brasembottawa.org/en/consular/visas/index.html

http://www.voyage.gc.ca/countries_pays/report_rapport-eng.asp?id=38000

Brazil practices the law of the reciprocity.

If Canada demands visa to Brazilian enter in the country, Brazil will also demand from the Canadian citizen that want to enter in Brazil.

Does a US citizen need a passport to travel from one European country to another?

I need to travel from Portugal to Italy, but I already used both entries on my dual-entry Portuguese visa. Will I need my passport if I travel round trip from Portugal to Italy?

I also don't understand what you mean. If you are a US citizen, then (at least for tourist travel anyway) you don't need a visa to visit Italy or Portugal for a max of 90 days out of 180 days. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_Waiver_Program

You will however need a passport for identity purposes. If you fly, you will need to provide your passport. On the train/bus, you may (but not always) be requested for it as well

All foreigners in Italy are required by law to have an ID with them at all times http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Identity_document so you would need to show it anyway upon request.

If you are a foreign legal resident in Portugal and have a visa for this, then the terms of this visa dictate whether you can travel onwards or not, and it may be wise therefore to check with the Portugese immigration dept or Italian embassy.

There are a group of countries known as the "Schengen" countries after the Schengen agreement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_Agreement) where you theoretically do not need a passport to cross boarders by land (countires are : Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.)

But if you fly you will need a passport anyway for airport security.

yes passports are needed every time you get out of the country and visit another one. definitely yes you do need your passport.

What is the best way to travel from Washington DC Intl Airport to UNVA Manassas Virginia?

I am planning to pursue a weekend MBA program from UNVA at Manassas in Virginia. My job requires me to travel and i intend to travel to the school on weekends. Is there any public transport available from Washington DC airports to University of Northern Virginia at Manassas , Virginia on Weekends (Saturday Sunday)

Are there any cheap options available in the neighbourhood of the school available where you can bunk in for a night and go to school the next day ?

Your question got me interested. I've lived in this area for years and never heard of the University of Northern Virginia, so did some checking. Based on their website, it appears that while the school is licensed by Virginia, it is not accredited--at least by the mainstream accrediting organizations in the US. Were you aware of this? That doesn't necessarily mean that the school isn't good, but it does mean that many employers won't accept a degree from the school, nor can you easily transfer credits to another school. They also don't appear to advertise in the local media, and they have offices/campus overseas--it appears that they are targeting international students who want to get a visa to study in America, regardless of the school.

As for transportation, it will be limited. While the Virginia Railway Express runs out to Manassas and there are also some commuter buses from DC to Manassas, service is weekdays only.

What is the difference between a usb Memorex travel drive and a external hard drive?

I always save photos, Word documents,Videos,Etc

I recently purchased a usb Memorex Travel drive and I was wondering what is better. A Memorex Travel drive or a external hard drive. I know a external hard drive has moving parts inside that reads and writes information and a Travel drive does not.

exactly..talking of portability you should go for usb drive , or flash drive. because it doesnt have moving parts like the external hard drive. its not designed to be carried always else it can be damaged. capacity wise hard drive has greater capacity than flash drive. you can buy a 500 to 800gig of hard drive. and flash drive i think up to 4.. 8 gig?

How much wud it cost to travel these areas in a van using diesel?

I need to know roughly how much it would cost to travel from hartlepool to kesgrave, near ipswich to pick up a large item (sofa) and then travel back down to hartlepool, cleveland, in a large diesel transit van. I think its around 600 miles alltogether maybe just under.

Disel is £1.03 per liter. I don't know how many liters you need to travel 600 miles but I will guss £390. Probally way out. My Mums car runs on diesal and she told me how much it is.

It could be cheaper for you to have it picked up by someone like Palletway or Palletforce -ask for a quote- & overnighted/trunked to a local depot, & delivered to your door, then you do not have the hassle of travelling. What is the length of the sofa?, because it may fit in a smaller, more economical van - Tranny 'Connect' 4 example Just checked route on live search maps roughly 510 miles round trip or about 10 hours driving. (I drove from coventry to newquay & back in the same day - 540 miles - 8 hours in my pug 406 2 litre petrol -39 mpg, but was shattered when I got back & I'm a truck driver used to long distances)

hi if the van is a rental then you would expect to get around 25-30 mpg so therefore i woud guesstimate around £100 - £120

2weeks pension money

18 miles per gallon. 5 litres in a gallon £1.35 per litre. Oh what the eck, you can work it out from here.

How would I travel from Orlando to Tampa?

I am planning a trip to Disney world Florida in April and I would like to go and watch an ice hockey match with Tampa Bay Lightning. But how would I travel from Orlando to Tampa?. Is there a train or something I could use or would I have to take a flight to Tampa?. Could someone please offer some suggestions. As I would really like to attend a match when I am there. I would probably visit Busch gardens in Tampa bay. Could I then get to St Pete's times forum from there?

The best way to travel would be to rent a car.

You can drive from the area around Disney to Tampa via Interstate 4. Drive time will be around 2 hours. There are some car rental vendors near Disney; contact the hotel you'll be staying in to, they should be able to direct you to the closest one. Enterprise and Alamo are two that I know serve the hotels near WDW, Alamo and National serves hotels on Disney property

I'm sad to tell you, but there are no inexpensive, convenient mass transit choices that run between Tampa and Orlando. No trains, no regular bus routes. Greyhound buses do go to Tampa, but you'd still need a ride to the bus station. No trains. Flying to Tampa would take longer than driving, because you'd have to get a ride to and from the airports and go through security. Mears transportation does have some shuttles that run to Tampa, so if you can't rent a car then try Mears.

Take a car, use a GPS, take Interstate 4, I-75 I-275 Will be your routes to see the Lightning, Busch Gardens and St. Pete I-4 connects right to I-75 and I-75 to I-275. Advice: Give yourself plenty of time and have patience! Traffic and Construction and changing speed limits.

If you are wanting to do all that and maybe more i would say rent a car. it takes about 45 mins to an hour to get to tampa from orlando,

I live between Tampa & Orlando in Polk County. It's about a 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive from Tampa to Orlando & the best way to travel there is by I-4.

Tampa isn't really far from Orlando. If you have a major credit card you can rent a car. It's pretty cheap.

Tamper bay is Florida. Just ask at reception in the hotel.

its not that far, hire a sat nav with your rental car (if your gettin 1) or take the bus, its only bout 90mins away

Definitely rent a car.

Get the bus or train, it's not that far

On Plane

Where can I travel to volunteer, or work, outside of Canada with a Criminal Record?

I am 25, healthy, and would like to travel somewhere to either volunteer or work. Please any suggestions would help.

Seriously dude, if you have a criminal record you shouldn't just be TRAVELING outside Canada..you need to RELOCATE for good. I don't want to post any details on how to do it, but as you travel you will figure out good countries and how to go about it. it really is possible to get completely off the radar, and in this new Dark Age ahead, skills like that will be valuable to have.

What is the easiest way to travel from LCCT to Malacca?

How do I travel from Guangzhou to the Great Wall of China?

Please give details like length of time, mode of transport, estimated amount, best times to travel (ill be there end of november) and best sites to see in Great Wall. I don't mind taking a long train trip but I haven't come across any info at all. I need help, fast! Thanks.

Train is by far the best way to travel in China, if you are not in a rush. From Guangzhou, you can take the Hong Kong-Beijing train which stops in GZ. Train T30 leaves GZ at 10:57 and arrives at the BJ West station the next morning at 9:25. Train T16 leaves GZ at 16:62 and arrives at the BJ West station at 14:58 the next day. Hard sleeper cost 460 CNY and 705 CNY for soft sleeper. I think you can book tickets on this train from the KCR website, although I am not totally sure. This route is very popular so you need to book well in advance, especially if you want a hard sleeper.

Once in BJ, you can go to the wall at Badaling (very popular and crowded) or Mutianyu (popular but less crowded). November in BJ is a bit cool, with day temperature hovering between 8 and 10, and lows close to 0.

You can either travel by train which will take about 21 hours, and around RMB 800 for a soft sleeper or you can fly a 3 hour flight for about RMB 1400. Though it will be windy and cold but still it is not too bad a time to travel to Beijing and the Great Wall at Badaling or Mutianyu or Simatai.

What is the travel time between San Francisco and Mono Lake?

I am planning a weekend trip. One option is to bypass Yosemite altogether. Another is to travel through Yosemite and Tioga Pass, which is more scenic and appears more direct. Does anyone know the comparative length and duration of each route? Which would you recommend?

I don't know the travel duration to go around Yosemite but it does appear that going through Yosemite is the most direct route and that is about 5.5 hours. The view in Yosemite is incredible and one that is worth seeing.

How can I find companions to travel abroad with?

I'm planning a trip around Asia with a couple friends. We're looking for a few more people to join us but can't find anyone among our friends who will commit to going with us. They either can't find the time or don't have the money to go.

Is there a way to find other people out there in the same situation who have the time and money to go abroad but can't find traveling companions?

Are there any travel forums or message boards on the internet I can look at? I

Any helpful suggestions will be most appreciated!

i don't have any particular answer for your question

but i think there are certain travel agencies that organizes group vacations, where they do a tour for a group of 20 people ( all basically strangers) so my suggestion is look for those agencies that organizes those group vacations

good luck & hope you have a nice vacation

one more question posted to get some browny points from yahoo answers ... get a life !!! lol

Well, I don't have an exact answer, but....

Just Go! Travelers are a self-selecting group. When you get where you're going (wherever that is) you'll find 'em.

check out statravel or any other student travel group. they specialize in group travel for 18-30 year olds. good prices and discounts.

You will meet lots of people when you go there so you may find you find lots of travelling companions in the first place you visit......where in Asia are you going??

What is the best way to travel from Frankfurt airport to Hannover?

I want to travel to hannover from Dubai and want to know which would be the nearest airport to hannover and what would be the best way to travel to hannover once I reach Germany.

Hannover has it's own airport, so ask for a connection flight from Frankfurt to Hannover.

Or you take German railway, which needs something between 2:35hrs to 3hrs ( depending if nonstop or change at Frankfurt Main Station ). Travel details, fares and online-booking can be found under :

How can I travel abroad doing volunteer work?

I want to travel all over and volunteer to help those in need. Im thinking like Africa and South America. My church does not do mission trips.

There are many organizations that set up trips for volunteers. Or you could contact other churches and go with them, it doesn't have to be with your own church. My nephew and his daughter got called on short notice by a friend from another state who had two slots to fill for a mission trip his church was doing, so they went along.

Ones I can think of off hand:

Doctors without Borders

Lions Clubs International (give donated eyeglasses to people in other countries)

How many hours does the bus take to travel?

A bus travels 200 km at a constant speed. A car travelling 10 km/h faster than the bus, completes the same distance in 1 hour less than the bus.

4.1 How many hours does the bus take to travel the 200 km?

4.2 What is the speed of the car?

Let the speed of bus = b km/hr

then speed of car = (b + 10) km/hr

time taken by bus for 200 km = 200/b hr

time taken by car for 200 km = 200/(b+10) hr

200/b â€" 1 = 200/(b +10)

200b + 2000 â€" b² â€" 10b = 200b

b² + 10b â€" 2000 = 0

(b + 50)(b â€" 40) = 0

b = â€" 50 or b = 40

speed of bus = 40 kmph

time for 200 km = 200/40 = 5 hr

speed of car = 40 + 10 = 50 kmph

How should I travel with Platies in the car?

I will be needing to travel in the car with my 2 platies for about 3 hours. I'm moving so I don't really have a choice about it. How should I do it so that they survive and also so that I don't get water all over my car. Also I'm assuming I'm going to have to empty the tank.

The best way to transport them is they same way they come to the store where you bought them - in plastic bags.

Your fish store may be able to supply you with one, just fill it no more than 1/2 way with water and leave the rest air and tie off the top. If you can't get them from your fish store, I've used 1 gallon ziplock bags, but be aware these can leak. Double bag to be safe. I've then packed the fish into picnic coolers (I usually have quite a few fish to transport) but maybe one of the smaller styrofoam coolers would work for you. This not only collects the water if they leak, but insulates them from temperature changes. As long as the car is moving, the vibration will keep the water oxygenated.

As far as the tank, you will want to keep the gravel and filter media wet to prevent the beneficial bacteria from drying out. You can move all this into 5 gallon buckets with lids if you have a large tank, or just draw the water down so it's only just a little over the gravel and move the tank and all if it's a smaller one (I wouldn't try this for any tank over 20 gallon).

If you're moving in more than one trip, you can prepare some water the trip before you move the fish to have it on hand, otherwise, get the tank set up as soon as possible. Remember to acclimate the fish to the tank by floating their bag and doing partial water changes to ease their adjustment to any differences in the new water chemistry.

I've transported bagged fis this way myself for 5+ hour trips without losing any.

if you go to one of your local petstores they will most likly be happy to give you a cupple of large fish bags. bag your fish, filling the bag about half full of water and half full of air, do not blow into the bag. then dubble bag them. they should be fine for the trip. as for the tank, drain all but enough water to just cover the gravel, but do not clean the gravel, then transport the tank, and set up at the new place

How much to travel agents typically cost?

I'm trying to plan a trip to Europe this Christmas. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to do all the planning by myself. I don't have very much money, so I'm wondering if I can afford a travel agent or not.

Don't get a travel agent. You don't need one. Save yourself money and do it yourself. Travel agents charge you @ $20 for booking airlines tickets. Which you can do yourself for free online. And they charge you for booking your hotel they just add it onto the cost of everything else. Go to Expedia.com or Orbitz.com.

You don't pay a travel agent silly! They are reimbursed by the airlines and other businesses they book you with, go ahead and call one!!

How do I travel from Berlin airport to our hotel?

A friend and I will be arriving at Berlin Tegel airport and we will need to get to our hotel: art'otel berlin mitte, by park plaza. I think the address is: Wallstrasse 70-73, Berlin D-10179, Germany. Could anyone advise what our travel options are? Also any tips to make our visit a good one? We already have an idea of things we want to see. Thanks for your help!

The hotel is located directly opposite the subway station "Märkisches Museum"

There is no U-Bahn at the Berlin-Tegel airport, the other Y!A contributor may have mixed it up with the Berlin International Airport at Tempelhof.

From Tegel you take Bus X9 to Ernst-Reuter Platz (16 minutes) and change to subway U2 in the direction of Pankow (19 minutes). Märkisches Museum is the 12th stop. The stop before is called Spittelmarkt. Cost for a single ticket (Zone AB) is 2,10 €.

http://www.fahrinfo-berlin.de/Fahrinfo/bin/query.bin/en?ld=0.1&seqnr=5&ident=ox.0124321.1217282391&

Alternately you may use a taxi. The Berlin taxi association provides an internet taxi fare calculator, which amounts the fare for this distance (12 kilometers) at 20,10 €. However, that is based on optimal trafic conditions without jams.

http://www.taxi-in-berlin.de/taxitarif/tarifrechner.php

You can take the U-Bahn from the airport to the Stadtmitte station and transfer there to a train to the Spittelmarkt station. The hotel will be about 300 m from the stop if the address you listed is correct. It takes about 30 minutes on the U-bahn and another couple minutes walk.

There's information on the public transportation system including a route planner here: http://www.visitberlin.de/english/berlin-infos/e_bi_stadtinfos_nahverkehr.php

http://www.fahrinfo-berlin.de/Fahrinfo/bin/query.bin/en?ld=0.1&

If you want to know real & genuine information of travel & hotel Booking of Berlin then you can find information from website http://www.a1berlinhotels.com. I hope it willbe usefull information for you.

What is the best way to travel out of solar system?

Well, we have found numerous planets around numerous stars beyond our own and now Voyager I has less that a decade before it passes into interstellar space.

Now, new ways must be developed to travel as quickly as possible so we might get to other stars to investigate these planets.

I have seen a few things on National Geographic but I was wondering if anyone who just scuffles about the internet has any personal (logical) ideas for space travel, manned and unmanned.

The best way to travel out of our solar system is to create mobile space colonies. Regardless of the propulsion system or the speed, it takes incredibly long amounts of time to travel to anything in space.

The trick is to form a crew who is motivated, dedicated, and large enough for a multi-generational journey. This means the people who arrive will be ancestors of the people who set off.

Some of the major obstacles include fuel, food, water, morale, resources, and redundancy.

Fuel:

This isn't that impossible. With space having very little resistance, friction isn't that much of a problem. Therefore with careful navigation (avoiding strong gravitational fields), you really won't need that much fuel. However, every bit of power you use to accelerate, you will again need to use to slow down. The trick is that you will have to bring all your fuel with you. Even before you leave our solar system, the sun's energy will have already become nearly useless. Nuclear energy will probably be the only option (dark matter might be another solution).

Food:

Not impossible. The crew will most likely use some sort of food recycling. This will include crop rotation, waste to fertilizer systems, and possibly even some livestock. The crew should most definitely carry reserves as well.

Water:

Some homes today have closed loop water systems. This should be cake.

Morale:

Sure you thought it was neat to travel through space before the mission, but 40 years into the trip, it may lose some of it's sparkle. What about your kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren? They never chose to be a part of this mission, how do you keep everyone happy and most importantly everyone working? The crew will be required to have all the social programs we have on earth including entertainment, adjusting legal systems, law enforcement, education, and so on.

Resources:

This is where I see a major problem! Have you ever seen a 200 year old car? What about a 100, or even 20 year old car? All things need to be repaired, and all machines have parts that will break down over time and need to be replaced. Some smart engineering will help reduce moving parts, but you can only engineer so far.

Furthermore, the crew will need supplies such as basic necessities like toilet paper to tooth paste for basic hygiene maintenance. Not to mention entire wardrobes for multiple generations! The crew will also need grease, paint, and all sorts of supplies for repair and daily life. Think how much paper you use in class, now imagine you need to figure out exactly how much paper you will need for your entire school career. There are just so many unknowns, it will be almost impossible to plan for everything.

A big help would be to use self repairing biological resources. Imagine a ship that could heal itself very much like our own body! If the ship could metabolize energy into usable parts, this could greatly reduce the amount of materials needed for such a journey.

Redundancy:

Redundancy is a factor of safety to prevent a catastrophic event. Think of it as the safety net under a circus act. In redundancy, you can have many levels. In the example above, you have 2 levels of redundancy because you need two SEPERATE systems to fail in order for the unwanted event (injury of the performer) from happening. If the guy was working without a net, he would only have a single level of redundancy (not actually redundancy). But look at this little tricky part if he added a cable attached to the trapeeze the performer now has a redundancy of 3 for staying off the ground, but still only a level of two for equipment failure (if the trapeeze itself breaks, his harness attached to the trapeeze will also fail).

For activities with known dangers, low factors of redundancy are acceptible. Let's look at the trapeeze artist again. The danger is from falling, so a safety net should do the trick every time, and you will notice most performers only have a redundancy of 2.

Now compare this to driving in a car. In a car, there are hundreds of thousands of individual events which could cause you to die. Each one of those events must be foreseen, and prevented each with their own redundancy factors. For example, a tire falling off could easily kill you, therefore you have multiple lug nuts, and multiplied factors of safety in the strength of materials used in the tire to make sure they stay on. Then to prevent a death from a collision, you have multiple safety functions like crumple zones, air bags, and safety belts all increasing your safety by not only working in unison, but also independently in case the other systems do not work.

Imagine all the potential problems you could face in something as complex as space travel. Your crops could fail, your fuel source could leak, you could hit something, your crew could become sterile... The amount of brain power it would take to predict all these possible problems, then provide enough materials to ensure survival through these incidents is just mind boggling. I see this as the true limiting factor in safe space travel. Because with the inability to create new resources (you only have what you bring with you), you must be prepared for everything, which is by definition impossible.

well the first unmanned way is to hope that alien life forms exist and are among us so that one day the public will have their advance technology using this technology we can travel just like they are.

Maned made objects could be finding a way to convert our bodies to energy. Once we can do that it should be easy to teleport them to different places. The famous E=MC^2 might help in aiding that.

I personally believe that if Albert E lived a little longer he would of came up with time and space travel. However, there are some profound intellectual individuals living today so one can expect a physics breakthrough.

NASA is building new motors, new ways of transportation, like a solar veil, impulsed by photons, a motor that works with plasma.

Nuclear pulse engine.

I recall the orion project. a nuclear pulsed explosion driven rocket. its supposed to be able to year a light year in something like 300 years or so.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_teleportation

use of the technology became illegal after a combination of countries created a no nuclear testing contract, even in space

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partial_Test_Ban_Treaty

so far its the fastest way to travel, and was actually working in space for testing. its unfortunate we can't use it anymore.

now were trying to come up with an antimatter nuclear pulsed explosion rocket to reach a light year in something like 8 years, but thats dependent on controlling anti matter

if you ask me. even using nuclear pulsed rockets to get 1 light year away, set up with an array of equipment would help out a hell of a lot better than what we have now.

I also find quantum tunneling or teleportation interesting.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_teleportation

Its already been observed and recreated in lab tests.

with a little more focus and we could set it up to relay the information the array could collect all the way to earth instantly. faster than the speed of light!

I believe the best way to leave our solar system is the M2P2 drive which stands for mini-magnetospheric plasma propulsion. It is a solenoid that generates a magnetic field that holds plasma, atoms stripped of their electrons. When the solar wind, which are ionized gases from the sun, hits the field, it pushes the space craft away from the sun. And the speed of the solar winds is about 300 km/s. Meaning so fast it can reach the moon in about 30 minutes. Of course it would still take a fair amount of time to reach the out reaches of our solar system, but it is a worth endeavour.

Use the stargate man. A worm hole.

i am betting that in the next few years someone smart will come up with the Heim-Dröscher space drive.

that's just a guess. no time-travel (ha ha) or anything involved.

of course the sad news is that there really isnt anything much out there.

I mean, after the drive and all that exploring that... uh, might happen. soon. if it happens, i mean.

just forget i said anything, ok?

You need reaction mass, and a way to accelerate it to high speed.

Reaction mass isn't difficult to come by: you can use water, hydrogen, bricks, whatever. Ion thrusters have been built using things like cesium. Just as long as you can shoot stuff out your exhaust at very high speed.

The power supply is the problem. We have used chemical reactions up to now, but they won't carry us much further. We need a more concentrated energy source: fission reactors will do, even if they're messy. I'd like to find a way to make practical fusion reactors.

Solve the propulsion problem and you can go anywhere. You are invited to work out how long it would take to get to Jupiter, Saturn, or even Pluto at, say 0.1g constant boost.

Interstellar travel is still problematic. Imagine trying to get funding for a project that couldn't produce any results for 500 years...

Before we can travel to other stars extensive colonisation and industrialization of our solar system will have to take place.

Building a vehicle on earth would be prohibitively expensive. What we need is a cheap reliable surface to orbit system, rockets do not fit the description.

As John records in the Book of Revelation, when he was translated to the third heaven, we shall all eventually stand before the Throne of God and, by our *own* personal choices, either enter the eternal presence of God or be condemned to spend eternity, away from God, our loved ones and all of our friends. The first heaven is the earth's atmosphere; the second heaven is the rest of the physical universe; God, who is outside of the physical universe is in the third heaven, which is, of course, outside of our solar system! Thus either physical death or the Rapture will be the *best* way to travel out of the solar system and even the physical universe - to spend eternity in (as we commonly refer to them) either Heaven or Hell!

What is the cheapest way to travel from Frankfurt to Dresden in a budget?

Traveling to Frankfurt in June and was looking for some pointers to travel to Dresden in an inexpensive way.

There's the "weekend ticket" by Deutsche Bahn (German railways), if you travel on a Saturday or Sunday. That's quite inexpensive, it goes (at current prices) for 35 euros, and allows up to five people to travel. But you're only allowed to use slow trains; you can check out a schedule at www.bahn.de. I'm sorry I cannot post the schedule here, as they have session IDs that expire after one hour, so a direct link would be worthless.

---

edit:

"Thumbing a ride", as mentioned by some posters, might not be so bad an idea. Try www.mitfahrzentrale.de .

---

2nd edit:

@Carolina, Lufthansa will in no way be the cheapest way, but the fastest, I agree. German BA might be an option. But by flying, you miss so much of the German landscape, and using the rail or driving on the Autobahn is an experience a traveller shouldn't miss. But that's just my opinion, as a German.

On a train or hitchhiking.

Walk.

Eat Funyuns.

Your feet.

bus? is there land mass or water? bus and very if theres water..i would think

Lufthansa has direct flights from Frankfurt to Dresden. I'm not sure if it is the cheapest way, but I'm pretty sure it is the fastest way.

thumb a ride.

Train on a second class ticket

What is the best way to travel from Ho Chi Minh to Bangkok through Cambodia?

I will be travelling from Ho Chi Minh city to Bangkok and would like to go through Cambodia to get there. I've read about boat trips that will take you through the Mekong Delta, but there isn't much mentioned in the travel books I've read. Has any one does this before and can offer advice and tips? Anything would be appriciated!

Travel????

Whats your favorite way to travel?

I fly Southwest tomorrow =)

if I'm flying, its JetBlue...gotta love having your own little TV in front of you

While flying has lost some of its appeal over the years,

it's still my favorite way to travel. If you prepare yourself

for long waits at the airport and bring your own magazines

or whatever to keep you occupied while in the air, it's

still a lot of fun.

Don't make the mistake of trying to carry large quantities

of liquid soap or shampoo or bottled water in your carry-on

bag. You'll just have to dump it out.

Have fun on your trip, Senorita.

driving so I can go my own pace. otherwise train, bus, if a reasonable distance bike

where in texas, AsUwish? I live here ;)

good ol' DFW .. that's about 500 miles from me :(

don't forget to ask for your peanuts sadiliscious!

hey Aaron : don't drink and drive, you might spill your slurpee!

what time am i picking you up at the airport again???...

i love driving. its like therapy for me. plus i hate getting somewhere and having to rely on people for transportation. i love to get to a new place and get myself lost so i can learn the streets and see things i normally wouldnt see.

Car

1) I have a kick@ss car

2) I'm scared of flying

3) I rather die at my own hands

Have fun wherever you're going =) I'm guessing Vegas since Southwest is popular for Vegas.

Thumb, but if you like to fly more power to you. Personally, I do not trust them I mean they are a hunk of metal that can fall from the sky.Have a great trip.

Road trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love driving my explorer all over and trying diner food as I go, seeing places, and just the feel of my seats and the sounds of my speakers as I drive through the highways and byways.

I prefer driving, you see more that way although, my husband and I are going to fly on our next trip because it's too far to drive. We'd use up all of our vacation in travel time. You have a safe flight!

I would travel west to California. They have excelent amusement parks. Are you a roller coaster lover?

Good Luck

http://tourdeedee.blogspot.com

Train. No jet lag. No $50.00 taxi to and from airport! Beautiful

scenery. Great food. Relaxing!

southwest... good luck with them. I hate southwest. I always go on American Airlines or Continental

Da plane, boss! Da plane!

flying! lol..it's amazing =)

or on a boat..that's cool too

Train-It allows you to see so much more of the countryside and is very peaceful.

I like traveling by airplane but have traveled by bus and car as well.

I like to walk...you can see more at your own pace...hehe

anything but Delta

Car, Plane, Limo.. I don't really mind as long as i don't have to walk/run too far :P

Have fun tomorrow ♥

Driving. Good music, stop when you want, eat what you want. It's a good thing...

flying! I wish I could fly to texas, but nooooo we have to drive

tomorrow

Dallas

by plane...but i watched a film lately bout a hijack n im a little scared now!! lmao

driving i love road trips...

enjoy the scenic route...

I would say by air!

In my Jeep.

by air

by car...

flying east

Used to love a good road trip, but they are awful with a two year old......would rather stay home...lol

I prefer to drive..it's more scenic.

Travel....?

I'm from Africa but live in the usa.

(LEGALLY) of course. and I was wondering do you need a passport to travel to the US VIRGIN ISLANDS? is it part of america? PLEASE GIVE ALL THE INFORMATION PLEASE.

WILL GIVE BEST ANSWER......

♥

The US Virgin islands are US territories, and thus no passport is need. However, that only applies if the flight there is a non-stop or stops at another US ports. If the flight stops in a non-US territory, and then continues to one of the US Virgin Islands, then you will need a passport.

Contact the National Immigration Association at

immigration.gov and ask them....or look them up in the yellow pages phonebook and call them and ask.

You are required to use your passport now whenever you are traveling, especially if your traveling overseas;even if its in the USA. And if your going to the British Virgin Island for a quick visit your going to need your passport.

if it is part of the USA than u want need a passport, but i am pretty sure you need some kind of certification like SS and so forth

you will need a passport to travel out of the country. Any travel agency can advise you on how to go about getting one. It has been so long since I had one, I can't remember where i went to get it but you will also need a special passport picture taken.

Is the air travel advisable during the last 4 months of pregnancy? What might be the negative effects?

I've heard that after 6th month of pregnancy, its dangerous to travel by air coz of thge air pressure and shortage of oxigen. Further, it can result in pre-mature delivery, dont know whats right n wats wrong.

I checked out the rules at three different airlines plus consulted with my doctor when I recently flew at seven months pregnant. The airlines generally do not allow travel in the last four weeks of pregnancy and the doctor said she could not see any reason why I shouldn't travel at seven months. As long as you're healthy and bp isn't elevated, you shouldn't need to worry. Just make sure to drink lots of water and sit by the aisle if you can, so you can easily get up and stretch. Also note that you are not allowed to sit by the emergency exits when you're pregnant.

Most Dr.'s advise you not to fly in the last few months of pregnancy. There are risks not only because of air pressure and O2, but from stress and anxiety as well. Most significantly, if emergency medical service is needed, it can be hours before it is available, time that is very precious to a mother and unborn child.Childbirth has become a great deal safer in the last 100 years, but mothers and babies are still lost in childbirth every day.If there are risks you can avoid, by all means, do so!

no i wouldnt recommend it to anyone and also could you imagine going into labour in a plain in the sky no way

I always thought that their fear was that the woman might deliver in the air and get body fluids on their carpet.

Travel????

i want to travel somewhere with my mom sometime soon. where should we go? i have no clue where to start. we need some place thats not going to cost alot, but is alot of fun!

Find the nearest train station that's interstate.

Start looking around on the internet for interesting places to see, or stop at. Trains are a hell of a lot cheaper than driving a car, what with gas a parking...

maybe if you could give some idea of where you are starting from -- I assume the US -- but distance affects travel costs, so it would be easier to give you some suggestions if we knew if you were East coast, south east, northwest etc

and give an idea of your budget -- 'cost alot' can be a few hundred to a few thousand or more.

so let us know if we should be looking for bus trips or international cruises :-)

What is the best airline to travel with my Golden Retriever?

I travel once a year for about a month from Boston to Phoenix. What is the best airline to travel with my golden retriever (100 lbs)?

Should I do anything to him to calm him? I've heard an excedrin helps but I don't want to harm him.

Do airlines have restrictions on what months he can fly? I fly to Phoenix in December and leave back to Boston in January. Is that going to be a problem?

West Jet they are very nice about animals

The airlines each have different rules and regulations about flying with animals. Aircraft type and configuration, outside air temperature and the size and weight of the dog are all factors. I'd do some research first to find out which airlines fly between Boston and Phoenix and then look on each of those airline's websites for their pet policy.

Good luck!

Phone all the airlines that fly there. It used to be UA (United Airlines that accept pets , so did Delta but They may have changed the rules. Boarding your pet still requires the airline accepted travelling containers.

Ask about the specific brand and specially the dimensions.

They will give the instructions to you.

What is a job that requires alot of travel? We want to travel living in an RV and need a way to support ourse?

My husband and I want to start traveling all over the country, but we have to make money somehow! What are some jobs that other people who live in rvs and travel all the time do?

We work at the campgrounds we stay in. Get an RV magazine and check out the ads in the back of the magazine. There are usually ads for park hosts and helpers in there. Or join a club like KOA or Good Sam's. They have parks all over the nation, and can help you plan an itinerary going campground to campground and working you way. I belong to KOA. Here is their website. Check the scroll at the left of your screen, down toward the bottom for work camping.

Edit: Forgot to mention: State parks will often hire you as park host, also. I know that provides a free camp site, I have never done that so I don't know if you get paid or not.

How can I travel to Canada if I have misplaced my Permanent resident card?

I can't find my permanent resident card and would like to travel to Canada. I do have my European passport and my US D.L.. What happens if I simply show them my foreign passport upon returning to the States and don't even mention that I'm a resident who's misplaced his card? Would this pose a long term problem or be considered sneaky?

What would Jesus do if he had to fool authorities?

You cannot enter the U.S. with a foreign passport...unless you have a visa to go with it. If you lost your green card, you must replace it before leaving the country. Why did you feel you needed to try to be funny and ask that inappropriate question? Go, ahead, try to fool the authorities and see what happens.

You can go to the embassy where you're at now and ask them what you need to do.

How to sue travel company in a different state?

I am in Oregon and would like to sue a tour provider whose US offices are in Colorado. I purchased the tour through an Oregon travel agency. The local agency is not the issue. They did a good job securing the services I asked for, but the tour company I asked them to use failed miserably on several counts. I really don't want to sue the local agent! Just the tour company. In lieu of a civil suit, I would also be agreeable to binding arbitration.

Any suggestions how to proceed?

first hire a lawyer who can make contact with them announcing you plan to file suit, but would accept arbitration if they agreed, if not file the suit and your lawyers advice/

How do I travel from Washington State to Hawaii with my Shih Tzu?

I hope it's not true that airlines don't let this breed travel in cargo because of their noses (pugs too i've heard). Obviously, I don't want to endanger my dog but I have to get her there somehow. Hawaii requires that all incoming animals arrive in cargo not the cabin. I am moving back and won't leave my little pup behind. Any suggestions or alternatives? Mahalo!

It is true that most airlines do not allow dogs with shoved-in faces to travel in cargo.

Also true that most major airlines require pets being imported to Hawaii to be shipped as checked baggage.

THAT being said.....

We brought our dachshunds over (LAX-HNL) in April 2004. At that time there was one airline that allowed pets in cabin trans-pacific; ATA. As far as I know, they still do; best advice I can give you is to call them!

http://www.ata.com/now/faqs/pets.html

Of course this is ONLY on their flights into Honolulu, as all pets must pass through the quarantine station there.

They take the animal from you at the door of the plane as you disembarke (like in the area where you pick up baby strollers, etc - before you actually walk to the terminal through the tunnel) and take them to the quarantine station while you go the long way around.

There was a 9" height limit which I am sure a Shih-tzu would qualify for; you do "lose" a piece of carry-on luggage (and they charge as much as if they'd checked the animal! Still as I recall it was less than the other airlines were charging at that time.)

You might need to take a flight down to LA in order to catch the ATA flight, but most airlines allow pets in cabin over land. Your main problem that way would be pottying the pup in LA, unless you take her outside the airport them come back through security. Is she trained to piddle pads? LAX-HNL is a good 5 hours.

You DO know about the hoops you need to go through in order to import a pet to hawaii??? Start early!

http://hawaii.gov/hdoa/ai/aqs/info

I would simply call the airline or send them an email and ask about the breed flying, however there are shipping companys that will fly your pet over if the commercial airline wont, just google it, they offer pick up and delivery services, but probably cost you around 200 or more to do so. But beware there are rip offs out there, I would suggest you choose a service with a paypal option that works.

If you are traveling with your dog to Hawaii, you'll have to abide by all quarantine requirements to do so. This includes your dog traveling by cargo as your dog will travel directly to the quarantine facility from the cargo hold of your plane.

Check with your vet for tips of how to transport your dog if you're concerned with their respiratory system. I'm sure your vet will know what your dog is or isn't capable of during travel.

I would suggest you check out the website below for information on quarantine requirements. You might be able to shorten your pet's quarantine stay if you follow the steps correctly.

Good luck and happy traveling!

Hi, Krista,

If you don't see the other answer, here's my suggestion: fly to California and then take a ship or go by ship all the way from Seattle.

Good travels to you and your pup.

How is the best way to travel with your bonsai?

What is the best way to travel with them without killing them? What supplies should you bring with you? I am talking about traveling in a vehicle.

It depends on whether it's an indoor or outdoor tree, and what the temperature is while you're traveling. Protect it the same way you would when it is at home. Winter: Outdoor tree, keep it in the trunk and don't bring it inside. Indoor tree, keep it inside the car and bring it in the hotel. You don't need to do any wrapping, but keep it watered......the same as you do at home. When traveling, use your imagination, make sure an outdoor tree stays cold, and keep an indoor tree above 55º. Take a look at the Bonsai Care page on my site:

http://www.american-bonsai.com

Water 2 days before you go, and cover dirt with saran wrap leaving plenty of room around trunk. I would suggest putting it in a box, taller than the plant is to minimize damage, and taking 2 flexible bamboo or other sticks and inserting ends in opposite diagonal corners to form a x shape that will protect it from accidental falls.

Remember the outside temp can rapidly effect your plant, hours in a car in the hot southern sun can kill it, as can hours in a freezing car.

What do I need in order to travel internationally?

Hello everyone,

I am planning to potentially travel to Germany and/or Russia sometime soon, and since I have never traveled outside the US, I have a couple questions:

1. What will I need to obtain in order to travel internationally? Passports? Visas, etc?

2. How much do passports and visas cost, and how long do they take to obtain? Will I need one for each country I go to?

Any other tips will be helpful. Thanks!

hallo,

use these links to get to know the requirements.

you need to apply for visa if you decode to travel to Russia.

visa is not required if you travel through the Schengen zone:Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.

http://germany.visahq.com/

http://russia.visahq.com/

#1 a passport. Go to the post office and start the process right now.

only certain countries require a visa and that takes several weeks to get.

What are some examples of travel writing?

I have a homework due tomorrow where we need to write a piece of travel writing to a place where we went before. I chose to write about Blue Mountain in Australia. The problem is that I don't know how to write it.

We've read an example but I don't really get what should be written inside a travel writing text and how it should be written. Any help would be appreciated. Examples of travel writing is also good.

Thanks!

Within it you should use the 5 senses, sight, sound, smell, touch and taste, so what things did you see such as nice views, strange people or things. Describe the smell of some things you remember smelling, the touch of something, those two are a little harder. The taste is easy, something you ate, food that the place is famous for for example. Sound, any music, animals or crowds you heard. The audiance will want to know all these things even if they dont know it, so they can see if its a place they would like to go. If any of the senses were unpleasent, you can make sure no one goes there, if you liked the place though, you can sort of advertise it using the senses, make people want to go and experience the sites, the food, the people...

How do I find a travel agency that offers on the job training?

I'm thinking of being a travel agent or a cruise consultant. I would rather get an on the job training instead of paying for school. Should I just call up each travel agency in my city?

What is a good, reliable travel service for traveling to china?

Looking for a RELIABLE travel company that offers tours of China, preferably (very very preferably) one that has airfare (and the like) included.

you can find more info from this web site

http://www.chinatraveldepot.com/

China Travel Service (CTS) is probably the oldest and one of the most reputable travel agencies for travel to China, and will include all of your transportation if you want them to. I've used them in the past and have no complaints. Here's their website:

http://www.chinatravelservice.com/company/home/

try this:http://www.happybeijingtour.com/infoshow.asp?sortid=15

I believe there are many choices you can find, check your local travel agents, or call the tour operators etc. but if you really go online, I also suggest you to check www.chinatraveldepot.com, unlike expedia or travelocity, this is a really local travel online company, dedicate to provide local travel information and services in China, check it out!

What ID is needed to travel by air domestically in the US?

What ID should one show when travelling/buying air tickets in the US? What if the ID is an expired driver's licence, will that person be able to travel domestically or not? What IDs can be used?

For domestic travel a photo ID like your Drivers License is adequate. However it is advisable to also carry your passport in case you are required to prove that you are a US citizen.

You can still travel with an expired drivers license but you will go thru extra screening when you check in at the airport and go thru the security checkpoint.

A valid state or government issued ID.

What are the best transport options to travel between european countries?

I'm planning to travel to europe in April 2009. I would like to know what are the best options for me to travel from London->Amsterdam->Copenhagen->Munich->S... Which route is best by air and which are best by land/sea? I only have 6 weeks to travel to the cities I have mentioned above, so basically 1 week in each destination.

As an addition to Becca's good answer, there is also the option of the bus/coach.

http://www.eurolines.com/index.php?id=113&L=0

If you will stay about a week in each destination you are likely not cheaper off with a rail pass.

For cheap rail tickets, 3 months or 2 months before travel the best deals can be had.

One of the most useful sites for train travel with Germany involved is:

http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml The rail planner for Germany. They also sell tickets.

For cheap flights you can use many different sites. I normally use one of the general sites to find which company offers the best deal and then search for a direct link to that company:

http://www.skyscanner.net

http://www.whichbudget.com/

A lot of people recommend trains. If you take them last minute though, they can be a little expensive. That said, some of them are really nice (I like the German ICE trains). Another way to get about is low fair european airlines. I know of Easyjet and Ryanair, but there are others as well. I've flown with RyanAir before and enjoyed it. They sometimes have limited destinations, but you can find very cheap tickets.

How much money (£) would I need to travel around India for 2 months?

I am planning to travel around India for 2 months in September. I would be going with my boyfriend so we would be sharing a room. It would be nice to do it quite cheaply, but probably not staying in hostels all the time, but apparently b&b type accomodation is quite cheap. We are not extravagant but wouldn't be too frugal either.

The price would include accomodation, meals, sightseeing, travel within the country, but not flights to India (which is approx £500).

Any advice from people who have travelled round India would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Unfortunately it's 10 years since I backpacked in India and I can't remember what I paid for anything although I have very fond memories of a lot of aspects of the trip.

If you go to the Lonely Planet website, select India and then look at the Money section, it'll tell you roughly what to expect to budget for, per day. Alternatively, search through their Thorn Tree section on India and check out other people's questions & answers. Add a bit on for drinks (although they are cheap, they eat into your budget), a bit more sightseeing than you might expect, the occassional nice meal (2 months is a long time in India) and the occassional upgrade to a nicer hotel plus the odd souvenier that you WILL buy, despite any intentions not to. Note that a tiger safari could be expensive unless you can find a group to share costs with. The LP budget will be in USD, but if you divide by 2, you'll have a rough idea of the £ equivalent.

I stayed in smaller hotels, of the type where I would meet up with other foreigners, although my travels by bus and train were in with the locals, otherwise why bother going.

Not exactly cost related but...

When travelling from place to place, 2nd class sleeper (soft) is perfectly adequate and comfy - but on some busier routes expect to have the carriage taken over by hordes of people who will sit anywhere they can find a space...which you can't blame them for, but it makes for a disturbed nights sleep if it happens to be on the end of your bed. I had one nice man telling me that I could put my legs in his lap - but he wasn't moving off my (top) bunk. Equally, by interacting and by chatting, half the carriage knew where I needed to get off - and made sure that I did when the train pulled into Aurangabad 2 hours earlier than I'd expected (and I was asleep).

If you go from Hampi to Goa (or indeed anywhere to anywhere) on a touristy overnight sleeper bus, make sure you get a bottom bunk and preferably one towards the front! You bounce around so much in the top ones and the back is just awful. I say 'touristy' but once we were all on and settled, the bus stopped and picked up approx 50 locals who proceeded to take over every available space, rather like on the trains, including perched on the edges of our bunks. Given the amount we had paid for this 'luxury' it didn't go down too well.

Don't pay someone to get you a ticket if the ticket office, especially at the train station, is busy...it'll rarely be cheaper and may end up not being the ticket that you want.

One final point - as you travel aorund you may well meet locals who ask you how much you earn. Whilst this may seem rather rude to us, it is a social indicator in India and determines roughly where you fit in to the class system. I always knocked quite a lot off my salary...but also proceeded to compare costs with my questioner - how much do they pay for rent compared to my mortgage? how about water, gas & electricity?, tax for sweeping the streets & maintaining lighting (is council tax)? travel to work? basics such as bread, milk, meat etc. That way I could show that, whilst I earned a lot compared to them, my outgoing costs were similarly large. I was only stumped when I was asked, as a comparison, how much a sack of grain would cost? - I had NO idea.

And a very final point - have a fantastic trip.

When I travel at an altitude of 400 to 600 meters and the road has many curves and bends my head hurts and my?

ears pound .I travel this route quite often what should I do?

Yeah me to.

Try chewing some gum. Propably what you have is a pressure diffrence between your middle and outer ear. Chewing motions helps to open a tube that equalizes this pressure.

You might feel better if you would get out and puke. Then sit by the side of the road for a while, holding your head in your hands and moaning.

Is the swine flu effecting american travel to the Caribbean?

I know they are advising against travel to Mexico. In two weeks I am planning on taking a vacation to Jamaica for my honeymoon. I have not heard anything from the resort yet but I was wondering if I have missed something? Thank you.

At this time there is no reason for concern with regards to travel in Jamaica. I have posted some websites that you can keep looking at prior to the trip and just make sure there are no travel restrictions. I honestly don't foresee any reason why you will not be able to travel to Jamaica Mon. Enjoy your honey moon lucky!

You would be happy to know that the governments in that region are planning extensively (as everywhere else) for proper precautions on prevention and containment if it should hit home. The Caribbean Epidemiology Centre - CAREC, called on Caribbean countries to begin immediate mobilization of key personnel to ensure that the region is ready to deal with possible cases of the flu.

We ain't got no Swine Flu here in the Caribbean as yet. It is in Mexico, USA as far as I know.

No, Jamaica is fine. no swine flu there, there might be but a short amount of people but nothing serious! Enjoy your Honeymoon!

How much will petrol cost to travel 700 km in Ireland?

I am planning a vacation to Ireland this Spring. The total trip travel will be about 700 km. How much will that cost? In either Euro or Dollar?

Petrol's about €1 a litre (99c is the cheapest I've seen, and €1.06 the dearest) here at the moment, you'd have to find out what kind of mileage the car you'll be driving does and calculate the cost using that. You can see petrol and diesel prices around the country at www.pumps.ie

What job involves getting to travel around the world?

I would love to travel for a job when I'm older, whats a job that isn't too hard to get into that involves getting to travel around the world, that isn't a flight attendant or a pilot etc.

What is the cheapest form of international travel?

So I live in Detroit and plan on traveling to many places at a time and sometimes by myself. Right now the way I plan to travel is through orbitz and it seems pretty cheap, but sometimes its super expensive. Like a flight from detroit to japan to australia to detroit is almost 5,000 bucks.

If I want to be a traveling fool what is the best way to go?

Go to any busy freight ship port and just pick a ship.

You can even hire on and get paid to travel.

How does one become a travel agent - What kind of testing?

I am nearing retirement and have traveled a bit. I would like a job during retirement. How does one become a travel agent? What type of schooling or training is necessary? Is there a certification needed?

I'm a travel agent with YTB International. It's a publicly traded company that has allowed me to become a Referring Travel Agent without any training. They provide all the tools you need when you sign up. My site uses the same booking engine as travelocity. It's awesome because I can write off all of my travel on my taxes and I collect commissions when someone books travel on my site. It's an incredible opportunity. Check out my site when you get a chance. http://www.danestravel.com click on "book travel" to see the booking engine it uses. you have to go to college for at least 1 year (maybe 2 yrs). you have to take alot of classes (like business and management, etc) because you might start your own business, and with a degree, it would make you look better because you went to school to become a travel agent.

good luck

go to a community college website and see what programs they offer, i am almost certain that the school has programs for travel and tourism

I am taking a course online through Penn Foster. It is self paced, but you have to be completed within 2 years. Then you take a test, called TAP.

How does the whole travel nursing thing work?

I would really like for someone who is or was a travel nurse to tell me their experiences with travel nursing and if they enjoyed it. Also, what are the salaries and benefits?

Basically, you work for a company that contracts to hospitals that have staffing issues. You are then told where to go and when to be there. The pay is great. It's usually about $60-70/hour. However, you should remember...there is usually a REASON that the hospitals have staffing issues!

How long could sound travel before losing energy?

Sound travels at 1100 feet per second. What distance could it conceivably travel before it finally loses it energy? Is it dependent on how much energy is produced in conjunction with that sound?

It will be subject to dampening on a continuous basis. Sound waves are dampened according to an inverse square law, where sound level drops as function of the square of the distance traveled.

Amount of dampening depends on the medium it is traveling through.

The dampening will continue until all energy is dissipated - long after you can still hear it. So, the sound will still propagate, or move, through the medium long after you are unable to hear it.

The length of time you will still be able to hear the sound will depend on how much energy the original sound had, and the medium it traveling in.
